Clay, please let Capt Skipper & Renee know I send my love and prayers. Skipper was so kind to me when I was on treatment way back in 2003. He didn't know me other than through this magical website but he sent me some wonderful music that I still listen to and I think of him and his kindness when listening. He is an inspiration to all!
Thanks for keeping us informed Clay.
Love from JodyGirl
I wil, jodi. I promise. I feel a real need to go now. I imagine it will be a very anxious four hour drive that has to be done.

I have resisted posting here until I could better get my thoughts together.
A few of us have known about Skip's battle for some time now. In typical Skip fashion, he had asked that his condition be kept private. Anyone that knows him well understands that that is just how Skip is.
I have to say that this has been weighing heavily upon me for some time, as it has others. It is so difficult because if there is a person that I could spare this, it would be Skip.
As has been mentioned, he has given so very much to this community through spreading the gospel of the Allman Brothers Band and other associated groups. It was truly his love of the music and his willingness to share it with others that shows how truly giving he has always been.
I want to share a couple of examples of that devotion so everyone that reads this will have a better idea of what Skip has freely shared with so many.
I called Skip one Sunday afternoon and he played back to me a segment of a remaster show he'd been working on. It was a version of Liz Reed. He was trying to get the pitch and the tone just right. He had spent four hours adjusting a 12 second segment of that version. He was so dedicated making things sound just right because of his reverence to the original lineup.
I had to the opportunity to visit Skip & his girls in Yuma at The Republic of Tea. They were all so totally gracious and welcoming. His home was literally so close to the Arizona/California/Mexico border that they had bars on the windows as "runners" made their way through the night.
As I learned there, the studio where Skip weaved his magic was accessible only by literally climbing through what had been a window opening before an addition was made to the 100+ year old farmhouse that the family lived in. That is where Skip spun his magic.
Another story that I have to tell deals with his tremendous sense of humor. Totally on a lark, I had traded some music to get a Barry Manilow show. I labelled it as Allman Brothers Band 6/26/71 soundboard. That is the "holy grail" show for all ABB fans. My expectation was that he would laugh it off as the bogus thing it appeared as. Instead, the day he opened the mailer, he called me and said, "I don't know how you got this, but, I sent the girls out so I could listen to this, I had to be by myself." Geeze, I actually felt bad at that point because he thought it was legit. About half an hour later, the phone rang and I could see it was Skip. I won't use his exact language but he really was laughing about what had happened. After that, I mentioned how badly I'd actually felt about the prank, and he said don't," I played the same trick on Tom Dowd's daughter and Clay."
When long time board member Bob O'Brien's (Bobo) health was failing, Skip had just received a copy of the epic 54 minute Mountain Jam from 5/23/70, Skip's Remaster Series 6. Bob's health was really going downhill and though Skip hadn't really addressed things sonically yet, I asked him to send Bob a copy so that he might be able to hear it. Skip agreed and it really, really meant a lot to Bobo to be able to experience that.
I could say a lot more things about Skip's military service in Vietnam, his compassion, his gratitude about how this site helped him out in a time of need....
I guess what I hope is that folks understand there is a very special man behind what so many of us have been able to enjoy, the music that Skip has enriched us with.
If this sounds like a eulogy, it absolutely is not. It's my impressions and fondness for a person that I hold in the highest admiration. I want people to know that Skip is way more special of a human being and a friend than anything he has done that has benefited so many countless others.
Skip, I love you and keep fighting the fight.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

You can always tell the quality of the man by the company that he keeps. Skip has always been so kind and such a quality guy and it does not surprise me to see the quality of those that care about him and love him so much. This forum and the magic that it has had is because of guys like Skip, Clay, oldcoot, Bird72, Slammer and so many others. Hell I think Clay used to stay awake 24/7 to burn the amount of music he shared.
Warms the heart to see love in this world even in the worst situations. That kind of love is there everyday and has been for a long time. You guys are great friends. Great post oldcoot! And it only represents a fraction of what Skip has done for us.
Passed along some messages to members that don't come around anymore. Continued prayers for Skip, Family and friends.

Capt. Skipper and Renee are both in my thoughts and prayers.....

Capt. Skipper is in my prayers.
I am deeply grateful for hours of music that would not have been listenable-classic shows that needed to be heard-that because of the Capt. I was able to hear. What a blessing, what a great honor. What a charitable man for sharing the music and all the healing that comes with it.And that is passed along to others. Now it's time to share the healing with and for Capt. Skipper.

Each time I listen to 9/16/71 Warehouse, I'm blown away by the work Capn Skipper did in helping this along to the top 2-3 boots among all of them -- same thing too with another show we all love that he brightened up, the beautiful 2/28/71 Brewer Fieldhouse...
Healing vibes en route, sir -- and to brother TanDan as well -- best wishes & good weekend from northern NE

great story oldcoot

Nice to see you around Dino. Wish it wasn't always bad news that brings you guys back. Hope all is well with you. Been a long time. Nice to see that news gets to you guys even when it is bad.

this hurts deeply to know this is going on with captain skipper right now. I see all the love going around and that puts me right back on track, so thanks for sending all the love his way' it's helping everyone at this time. I know for sure that his remasters have gone all around the world along with his love and I play them at my home all the time.
One time after learning of my mothers love for frank sinatra, he sent me 2 sinatra remasters for her for Christmas. The look on my moms face when she opened them and then me explaining to her all about them, capatian skipper, re-masters, vines etc was epic.
Love & Peace to everyone, God Bless you Captain Skiipper

It looks like the fund raiser ends tomorrow Feb. 10th around 11:00pm CST.

This is heavy news. I just am thinkful for all his work bringing the music to us. I have just donated to the cause.

I just want to thank everyone that has given, in any way, to Skip and Renee. Incredible!

It's the right thing to do.

Don't know how to post an image, here is the link instead.

Been trying to digest the situation with Skip after Clay told me what was going on. It's hard to wrap my head around the whole thing. Let me just say I am not very good at all with these types of things but one thing I can say about Skip is he's a fine human being. Regardless of what he's done for any of us in the past, just being able to speak with him and know him just a little bit has made me appreciate what he really is; a wonderful human being. There are so few left in this world that being able to say I know of Skip and his generosity, makes me a better person. I'm not into the whole religious thing but I'm keeping Skip in my thoughts and wishing him the best. Get well, bud!

4 hours left on the ebay auction, thanks everyone!

Bless you Clay for all your generosity to the good folks here, and especially for supporting your dear friend Captain Skipper now. Captain Skipper remains in my thoughts and prayers.
