Thanks. I somehow never heard this and it's very cool. I had to pause an old school 1997 Mule live show to watch it... show i was at, Rick's Cafe in Ann Arbor, MI. God, the original trio was cool.

Hard to describe those early years of Govt Mule as the shows were so intense and loud. It was completely stepping back to another era but it had improved. Not sure if that makes sense at all but it was a new improved time warp.

I used to drive 6+ hours to see them open. LOL

I have seen Buckwheat a number of times and always great. But I have a Buckwheat limit. 😛

Seriously .Not music to put on while you work or try to focus on anything else. They were so, so loud in the club days and it drove some people I brought with me, including my wife right there in Ann Arbor, right out of the door. they played back to back nights and both times I spent all afternoon on the bus with Warren and Woody smoking and listening to music. Walked in with them, was totally on the same plane, and stood on stage and just had my face and soul melted.

I can relate to your guys posts. The first few years were so strong as a 3 piece. That's were the Mule is at for me.

I remember seeing them in a small club here in Indy on the first tour. Crowd was kinda thin. I was pretty much able to stand a few feet from the stage the whole show. Alot of raw power coming from a young hungry band.
They did great covers of Young Man Blues and Just Got Paid.....and it was loud.

The 2nd time around they played the same club and crowd was much larger.

I had virtually the same experience the first time that I saw them. We had talked a bunch about Led Zeppelin and Warren threw in a couple of teases.

I laugh at your comment about blowing the wives out of the building. That was the 1st time that I saw them in Montreal and I warned all the ladies in advance. It turned out to be one of the longest Govt Mule shows that I have ever seen.

The band was feeling the Montreal "vibe" themselves. They come out and peoples' faces are contorting from the sonic blast. I was right up front with a few friends and the guys beside us light up those Bob Marley joints. Massive things that were closer to a cigar than a cigarette in size. They spark up at least a half dozen right away and then pass them and light up another half dozen.

Warren and Woody are engulfed in a massive cloud. They were looking at each other a bit shocked and laughing. The cloud just keeps getting bigger as people light up everywhere. Warren wasn't used to seeing this in a bar. 2nd hand smoke took on a new meaning. By the 2nd tune, it is like a Spinal Tap scene. You could barely see the band.

Warren looks at Woody and Matt and switches up the setlist on only the 3rd song. They kick into Don't Step On The Grass. LOL - It was so funny. Ask Warren about that night. He will remember I guarantee. Govt Mule absolutely smoked (pun intended) and Warren was in a zone. 1 long set with jams galore.

Then Warren says " That is our set for the night but we are going to come back out and jam with some friends.". They come back out with Big Sugar and play another hour.

The wives/girlfriends had left LONG before that. LOL

Just look at this setlist. And everything was extended jams. The recordings out there are Audience recordings but stellar sounding. I see the Mule whenever I can and that has added up over the years but this show has yet to be beat for me. Hung with the band before and then after. Extremely enjoyable evening.

I was going to post a set list. Is Mulebase not available? I did a search and got nothing?
