Bobby Whitlock and CoCo Carmel: LAYLA

Layla is one of those tunes (like Hotel California) that I've become really sick of. Radio WAY overplayed it for years and everyone I've ever heard cover it plays it exactly like the original. Until now. Bobby Whitlock and wife CoCo Carmel came up with a wonderful rearrangement and turned it into something much more bluesy. I gotta say, having only heard it this evening, this is my favorite cover of Layla ever. Except I'm not really sure you can call it a cover since Whitlock was on the original.........

Rob - A great version and familiar with Coco in only her posts first time i've seen her play. Gotta love a serious sax player in heels Some songs with so much airplay, cover by various artists, versions by Clapton with guests, acoustic versions, the original great song gets diluted. I'm not sure diluted is the right term. I still love hearing artists cover the song, yes mostly like the original. Derek and Trey is an example of an incredible version and another favorite was the Live Aid version from 84 or 85?
