I am sure a lot of us have heard the story of Dickey sitting in with Dylan, and Dylan already knowing "Ramblin' Man" saying he wish he'd written it. Still, I had never heard the audio from the show - pretty cool to hear Dylan take a verse.

Have always been curious to hear this! Definitely fun to hear Dylan take a verse.

Almost positive this occurred after Dickey had left the ABB and not in 1995 though.

Axman. According to a couple written reports it was a Bob Dylan show in Tampa November 30th 1995. Dylan invited Dickey to the show then invited him to join in on stage. Dylan said "Let's do Rambling Man" and Dickey said " okay Bob I'll write out the words for you" with Dylan replying " I already know the words and I'll sing the second verse". Dickey said he figured Bob would just make up something and Dickey was surprised when Dylan sang the words correctly and better that Dickey himself could. He told Dylan that too. I assume Dickey meant it.

But when Dickey got the fax in 2000 he told the press he was the only one who didn't play outside the band after they toured in 1989. So maybe that 1995 date is wrong.

The date is indeed 9/30/95....checking on boblinks it seems Dickey sat in for 4 or 5 songs at this Dylan show. I used to have a 2 cassette copy of this Dylan show; I just moved but will keep an eye out for it. Would be a good candidate for digital conversion

Thanks for the research and info!

I can't believe so much time has gone by that I thought this was a decade later. 95 makes sense in that this about the time Dylan's various artist Jimmy Rogers tribute album came out which Dickey plays on. Makes sense that Bob would look him up at about this time.
