Okay, it's a cookie cutter show at this point. I could write the setlist or you can visit the Bob site and copy and paste from any of the recent shows.
I saw him 11 days ago in Savannah. Same show, but the difference was in the venue and the audience.
The mostly senior audience in Savannah was low-key and provided very few distractions. Certainly very appreciative and courteous to the performer. Sometimes, positive audience feedback generates positive performer feedback. I think this was certainly the case at the Fox Theater last night.
Bob seemed more animated and engaged than he did at the Johnny Mercer Theater last week. There were no visible or audible snafu's of any kind. The band is top notch and well rehearsed. The behind the scenes crew runs a tight ship. The dramatic lighting - lot's of footlights and soft over-head spots lend appropriate drama to the set.
"Young" is a term that depends on what you compare it to. While certainly mature, this audience wasn't afraid to risk breaking a hip - a good bit of dancing in the aisles was detected.
The Fox Theater, itself makes any show worth attending! Since my childhood, I've seen everything from Disney movies to magicians, comedians and every variety of musical act here. The building and its surroundings have always made each event even more enjoyable.
Ran into many old friends last night - my old Bama buddy Richard (friends since 1972) and his friend, Roger, Miss Terry and Doug and Brock and Patrick Crenshaw - all from right here in Peachville. A great, great evening in Atlanta! Back in my island home after a nice morning/afternoon drive home.
Brock - I blew it with the Who! I should've taken you up on your invite for the Atlanta show. The JAX show has already transpired - I got caught snoozin' again!
We're going to the show at the Peace Center in Greenville tomorrow night. Yesterday I was surprised to get an email from the venue stating the show would last 2 hours and 5 minutes including a 20 minute intermission. I have never gotten information like that ahead of a show. That let me know to expect a tightly scripted performance.
Postscript: A good bit of Dylan's current shows is made of of fairly recent material. I think this speaks volumes about his artistic and creative sensibilities. Most acts from his era tend to rely on the old material. To be fair, fans probably prefer this. I can't speak for Mr. Dylan but to a fan, it appears that he is still a forward thinking and moving artist. He seems to go the extra mile to not be another oldies act. To be honest, this probably doesn't play well with every single ticket holder. Personally, I respect Dylan for continuing to do things his way.

What I said to my seat neighbor at show's end when he was incredulous that he had not gotten a Watchtower or Like a Rolling Stone. There were some moments, Scarlet Town and Pay in Blood, among them, but this was my least favorite Dylan show.
I copied the prior show's setlist onto my phone to follow along, and expected the same, so that was not a disappointment per se. Maybe it was the contrast from the prior night's Who show that did me in. Pete and Roger were funny and engaging while performing as well as they did. I know you get none of that w/ Bob, but still... He did sashay a little during a few of the tunes, but that's all the personality he would reveal.
Nevertheless, any time I get to be in the presence of Bob, I'm doing it. It's been a privilege to share the same planet w/ him.
I'm also glad to have gone because I got to see Rusty and Donna. I've been lucky enough to enjoy their hospitality at their home, but this time they took their show on the road! They provided a spread of Cuban sandwiches, chicken fingers, hummus, cheese, snacks, brownies and beer, that I got to enjoy both pre and post-show (and was sent home w/ leftovers!). Thank you Rusty and Donna for throwing this little shindig (NOT a party!).

I completely understand. I saw him in Baltimore a couple weeks ago two days after seeing Stevie Wonder's "Song In the Key of Life" show.
Wonder's concert was a blessing. The music was moving and full of life and love. It was just stupendous. Very different than the Bob show, but I didn't expect the same from Dylan.
I had front row pit right in front of Bob's piano and I didn't stop grinning for a moment. I was ecstatic to watch his facial expressions, his quirks, his sashaying about.
I've seen Bob many times and will do my best to see him again.
It's been a privilege to share the same planet w/ him.

Well, I'm glad I went because I had never seen Bob live and everyone should do that at least once. But, to be honest I enjoyed seeing Billy Joe Shaver last week for $10 more than I enjoyed Bob Dylan. As someone said, "you get what you get with Bob". The band was good and Bob mumbled in tune, but there was never a moment when I wanted to jump up and yell "Holy sh!t, did you hear that?!". I left feeling that I had checked that box, but that's about it. I wish I had seen him 40 years ago.
Edit: On a positive note there was a instrumental interlude in the the middle of Early Roman Kings where the interplay between guitar, steel guitar, and piano was incredible. I was totally mesmerized for a few moments.

a quick note to thank rusty & donna for their hospitality. I can take or leave dylan but it was good to see him again & of course the fox is a good setting for anybody's performance. the crowd leaving certainly seemed happy, which isn't always the case. steve winwood is at the fox this friday & of course I'll be there for that show, I'm still amazed by how many of these folks I'm seeing this year I could have seen in 1970, or even 1965 in some cases! missed the who on thursday, somebody at dylan in the lobby wearing a who shirt said that was the best performance he had seen in 60 years--and then he did a little windmill air guitar to make sure I knew where he was coming from! saw a great weekend of music at the inman park festival, especially larkin poe, my advice is check them out for an amazing performance if they show up in your town, so there is still great music being made--if you look for it. my only regret is missing big sandy at the star bar, but I'm sure he came on after midnight saturday & I had to draw the line somewhere. rock on & support live music!
