Blues Traveler, "The Mountains Win Again", Bridge School Benefit, 1997

I just recorded my own "The Mountains Win Again" on 07/20/17 but looking at it led me to this one. And mine can't POSSIBLY measure up to this, performed by the original Blues Traveler. Unfortunately bassist Bobby Sheehan passed away two years later from an overdose. Sheehan is in this video and in fact he wrote The Mountains Win Again.
This was at Neil and Pegi Young's annual Bridge School Benefit, Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, CA, 10/18/97.

You must read minds, I was just thinking about them and how strongly everyone comments on Popper's Harp playing.
We used to go to the H.O.R.D.E tours and also see Blues Traveler regularly in the Philly area. My wife and I personally loved them and thought that they were never the same after Bobby died.
I'm of the opinion that they are partially responsible for the Jam Band scene of today as those festivals are the progenitor of all of the Summer festivals we enjoy today.

shep66: Jealous here that you got to see them that many times in the early days. Prior to last week I had only seen them once, HORDE '94. Yeah, they were great but so was everyone, and WHAT a lineup, in fact one of the best Festival lineups I EVER remember going to: Allman Brothers Band, The Black Crowes, Blues Traveler, Ziggy Marley, Sheryl Crow. Whew......

That's a great version, thanks for posting that Rob. I've always been a BT and Popper fan. I've been meaning to read his book that came out last year. He's a really funny and weird man. And obviously very talented.

What? I've been away a week and we're going to cononize Pooper? Not on my freaking watch. John Popper is the biggest pompous assh*le of the last how ever many years BT has been on the scene. I watched him ruin a Xmas Jam by himself by overplaying, over staying, etc. There are a couple of reasons "The Mountains Win Again" is their best tune. Sheehan wrote it and Haynes played on it. Again if I had a choice of listening to Pooper and getting pounded in the nutz with a rubber mallet. Please give me the mallet. Love you Rob and the rest of y'all ... as long as you keep your affection for Popper deep in the closet where it belongs.

Rob, that was one of our favorite festivals ever. When we left the show, I told my wife that we need to make time for these events just because what we saw was so amazing. I'm grateful that we've been apart of this scene for so long. The music and bands that are affiliated with these shows are second to none.
I'm going to the Saturday Peachfest this year. The lineup speaks for itself. I can't wait to be there withe everyone. Let me know if you're going and we can have a beverage together.

That would be great. Not from California though...........
Nice to hear you agree with me about HORDE '94

My prescription for your anger and hatred would be an indica dominant 60mg cannabis muffin.
If you would rather pound yourself in the nuts than listen to Blues Traveler, well, knock yourself out. I won't theorize here on how much time you spend doing such things.

I was leaning more towards Sativa Rob. 😉 Anyway how anybody could enjoy John Popper is way beyond me. Of course there are much greater conundrums in this country in this day and age. So nothing surprises me anymore. Give me credit for consistency I thought He and BT sucked when they opened for the ABB in the early 90's. I believe I had the displeasure of seeing Pooper a couple of times before that Xmas Jam where the crowd and I were screaming for him to get off the stage. One scenario stands out I believe it was Pooper, Jimmy Herring, K'vn Kinney and Audrey Freed playing a tune. Pooper started blowing and didn't stop until after the others had long quit. No big loss not being able to her Kinney but being deprived of seeing two real musicians play together for the first time really cemented my hatred for him.

IMO they were so so so so much better as a four piece before Sheehan died. They were never the same band when they came back and added in keyboards. They were an absolute beast as a four piece from the time period of this video IMO.

LMAO!

I did not catch BT before their band mate passed away but I sure dug the many times I have got to hear them. I enjoy Popper's playing and go out of my way to catch him play. As for his personality- I would miss a lot of good bands if I stayed away because of artists' bad politics/ personalities.
