Black Friday Record Store Day

Here is the list of releases. The Gov't Mule and Dead records look really cool. I wonder how many people will be there. Hope the lines aren't too long.

Never again. How is it these titles are on eBay before the stores open?
Obsolete format anyway.

I just made a list of 6 participating record stores in Manhattan. My goal is to own Stoned Side of the Mule by noon on Black Friday. I'll let you all know how I make out 😛

I like vinyl. Some may say it's obsolete and that is fine. I would rather be a happy Luddite than a malcontent modernist. To each their own.

I'll be there to grab the Mule and I am sure I'll find something else of interest.

Well currently it almost looks like CDs will become quicker absolete than vinyl 😛 😛 .
I may be proven wrong but i guess for the coming years CD sales will continue making a dive and i don't think
there will be a comeback like the current trend regarding vinyl sales.
I hope i can score the Stoned Side Of The Mule LP online friday or saturday in the USA because it looks like there's not much RSD activity over here in European vinyl / record stores because we don't have a Black Friday nor Thanksgiving Day.

The Wall Street Journal has a stream of Monkey Man form the vinyl only Black Friday release (November 28th)Stoned Side of the Mule: Volume 1.

There is a cassette tape release!!!!
The world is going crazy, what about 8 track????
I called my local and Govt Mule and Dead should be in store. All good!!!

My Record Store Day is when I go to a bigger town / city and go to any record store...
Recent road trip finds, all nice shape great prices:
Traffic Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory
Best of Cream
Cream Live I & II
Mountain Flowers of Evil
Jerry Jeff Walker self titled
Winwood (70's career to date compilation)
Albert King The Big Blues
Albert King The Kings Things
Fleetwood Mac in Chicago
Levon Helm % The RCO Allstars
Odetta At The Gate of Horn
Buffalo Springfield Again
Buffalo Springfield Last Time Around
I should note the Albert King were exceptions to cheap at 20 each, but finding vintage King in nice shape is almost impossible, so great score to me!

I actually went to 9 different record stores in Manhattan today looking for Stoned Side of the Mule and came home empty handed.

Hi Eileen
I'm sorry to hear that ..:(
But sadly that is not uncommon on RSD. But as BlueSky4ever said you will probably be able to get one online, hopefully at a reasonable price.

The Ebayer's sucked them all up.
At least 15 already up for bid.

I got mine at Ace in The Hole Music in Columbus,Ohio. He had a few more when I was there. I would think he could ship them to you and still come out cheaper than those ebay listings.

Fun day at the record store ...came home with 8 used lps ...
Bonnie Raitt ...sweet forgiveness
New Rider of the Purple Sage... NRPS. ...W/Jerry & Mickey
Joan Armatrading...show some emotion
Montrose..jump on it
Montrose..open fire
Ry Cooder...bop til you drop
Tom Johnston...still feels good
Tom Johnston...everything you've heard is true
Cecilia & Kapono...Elua
Great day!
PS .Elieen check your pm...

bullmoose.com. Portsmouth, NH. I actually passed on this as they had so many! The Grateful Dead was a hot ticket...Glad I got one. Great version of "Playing in The Band"!

If you get shut out on what you were looking for, you can sometimes find it online for the regular retail price if you're willing to put in a bit of time and effort. I've found several records at various online retailers that were sold out at retailers near me on record store days past, even weeks after the event. And if you have enough patience to wait a few months, you can usually find quite a bit of sold out record store releases at the retail price even on Ebay after the hype has died down.

I got a lead on a store an hour away that had 4 copies, as of about 8:30 tonight. Just so happens I'm heading that way tonight to see some college football Saturday, and plan on being at said store at 10:00 when they open Sat morning. No idea what the "list price" is but I'm inclined to buy all 4 copies they have. One for me, one for my 20 yr daughter, and maybe 1-2 that I'll sell for list price to some folks here who got shut out.

My musical day was interesting. Started out going to Best Buy. Note to self: Never go there on Black Friday. Good God!
Picked up the remasters of Led Zeppelin II and IV. The extra discs are cool. Ran across a Pink Floyd double CD set called "Pulse". Didn't even know of it but it is amazingly good!
Went to my local record store and there was a line outside. Stood there for a minute and struck up a conversation with two guys, told them what I wanted: Govt Mule & Grateful Dead. Turns out these two guys are Deadheads. This old dude knew a ton about The Dead so I stood there and listened. He knows the guy that does the Dave's Picks. Very interesting.
Then he proceeds to tell me that the guy that preceded Dave doing the Dead stuff was Chuck Leavell. But Chuck died so Dave does it now. I absorbed this for a second and told him that Chuck is alive and well and plays with The Stones and use to be in the ABB. He looked at me like I was from Mars.

On to my purchases:
They are out of the Mule release. I assume they didn't have that many. So I want The Dead release from '72. Yep, we have that. "Great, I'll take two" (My buddy couldn't make it).
Sorry, we can only sell you one. It wouldn't be fair to the other customers. So I get mine. I was going to get back in line but they would know me so I just left.
Told my buddy about it and he told me to send my wife in instead. She was having none of that. I changed my hat and coat and went back last night and they still had a copy.

Yeah, that aspect of RSD really sucks. You can't pick up two copies of the same product in your local record store but a whole bunch of Ebay and Amazon market place stores have plenty copies in stock to sell which a huge profit margin. At least at 3 times the original price (Mule's RSD vinyl selling for 60 bucks or more).

I told my wife I was going to try to get you one after I saw your post. She asked who you were. I said I didn't know but he wants it. I was really hoping.

Dead heads know everything LOL

Onto my buys....
I got the Mule and the Dead, the Miles Davis 7" that is incredible and on a whim grabed the New ORder 7" clear plastic and its not that bad.
Also bought a re-release of Rudolph w Burl Ives and the Tragically Hip Fully Completly re-release.
Was shot down buying 2 mules as there we're only 2 in box.
The Muile release is on some uber thick vinyl. Soiund is amazing, same with dead and Miles.
Yeah I went a bit stupid yesterday.
ROCK ON!!!!

I am going to have to go back and pick up that whole series of "Chuck's Picks" that apparently I missed out on.
Chuck Leavell, Dick Latvala... close enough.

Well, the jacklegs at Oz Records in Tuscaloosa who had "4 copies" after closing time last night had zero copies at opening time this morning.
Good thing it's a lot warmer this weekend than last as I actually rode my bike over there today.
I trust this will be the worst thing that happens to me today....and the Tide crushes the barners by at least dozens to zero!

....A matter of taste for many, but I'd gladly pass on the Rolling Stones Mule for the Dark Side of the Mule, which I don't think has dropped just yet?! Regardless, don't get raked on E-Bay for this; every one of my local stores still has this for $19. They just haven't thrown them on-line yet; next week.

Thanks to all who responded to my failure to obtain Stoned Side of the Mule.
3 different people offered to help me get it.
My copy was obtained at Jacks in Red Bank NJ

Glad the "barners" kept the Tide from beating us by dozens. I just wish we had more for you in the 4th quarter. Disappointing finish for us in that game. Mincy vs Cooper was a laughable mismatch on our part. Congrats on the win despite the unnecessary derogatory term for us.

Chicago. About a mile south of Wrigley Field. There are a bunch of used music stores in the city, which is cool. Don't even have to drive to them. It's fun just poking around spending hours picking up stuff you didn't even knew you "needed". 😉
