Thought I'd let everyone know: The AXS series "Brian Johnson's Life On The Road" is pretty good from just the two one hour segments I have seen. Johnson of course is AC/DC's frontman. The Mark Knopfler segment was nothing short of excellent as much of it consisted of Knopfler revisiting old English/Irish/Scottish folk songs accompanying himself on acoustic as Johnson at times sang along. Just classic stuff. He said Dire Straits got so big that it was actually scary. His life had changed and not in a positive way which led to him breaking up the band.

AXS is doing a marathon of these Brian Johnson shows on Friday 11/29 and the Knopfler segment airs at 6:00 PM West Coast time. Check local listings of course. Later on that evening are two which I have not seen but am looking forward to: Robert Plant and Roger Daltrey.

I have really enjoyed this program.

The Robert Plant one was great, with Plant breaking out his sword from the Song Remains The Same movie.

Absolutely great show....I too highly recommend checking it out. I've missed several episodes so thanks for the heads up on the marathon.

I'm a huge Mark Knopfler fan and so look forward to seeing that episode. I've seen the Sting, Nick Mason, and Joe Walsh episodes so I missed a lot of good stuff. I think this is arguably one of the best shows on these days.

I like Paul Scheaffer but damn does he interrupt his guests too much. So much so he practically finishes their sentences for them. It's very annoying. It's like watching Hard Ball with Chris Mathews...Another dude that rarely lets his guest finish answering the question before he chimes in with either the answer or another question.

I think the magic of Brian Johnson is he's genuinely interested in the people he's interviewing and there's a sweetness about him that I find appealing. that is to say there's no rock star ego trip inside him. It's not contrived fake appreciation if that makes sense.

Plus the whole approach is about gleaming interesting information and little known tidbits from people he obviously admires as fellow artists and really likes hanging out with. We don't hear the same old stories everyone has heard a million times already from all the other interviews, magazine articles, Behind the Music kind of thing.

I watched the Roger Daltrey segment last night and it's got to be one of the very best of this series. Roger's stories of the early Who days are just priceless. I'm not going to spoil it for you but the antics of Townsend and Moon both on and off stage are pretty crazy. And where do you think Hendrix got the idea to start smashing his guitars? Take a guess...........

The Who were playing 4,000-5,000 seat theatres in the late 60's but after Tommy was released and the Woodstock film came out, all of that changed. It was 20,000 seat arenas and then got even bigger, football stadiums. Roger said he hated the football stadiums.............the volume had to be turned WAY up of course, resulting in later hearing problems for everyone in the band.
