Got a boner going for dickey?
you mean do i find it odd the ABB co lead singer and main song writer is absent the last 14 years the band existed but people didn't call it a phony band while steve gorman who never wrote or sang anything but the two main creative people in the black crowes will be present and now this is a phony band then yes? was that were you were asking?
I like the analogy. Great question in my opinion.

i have no issues calling any lineup with gregg and at least 2 other original members the ABB. they constantly changed members for different reasons from 1971 until 2000 when they finally had a stable lineup. same reason as long as it's the robinson brothers to me it is the black crowes. the had like 10 members from 1990-2002. its not like they ever had a stable lineup. usually it was a lineup that lasted 5 years max then in came other guys. clearly steve gorman is out but i'm hoping colt, sven, freed or ford are part of this. not all of them but somebody else from back in the day

I'd love Marc there but if not, what about Audley?
I think that is more likely since he played in As The Crow Flies with CR.
I also wouldn't rule out Jackie Greene returning.
I don't see Luther Dickinson coming back.

I honestly was skeptical of Jackie Greene holding down that spot when he followed Marc Ford and Luther Dickinson who are just monster players. With Jackie, they seemed to have pivoted back to a little less extended jam during that tour with Jackie and more song oriented of the first couple Crowes albums (and played those 2 pretty heavy) and I thought the band was strong with him. It was almost refreshing for them to be more song oriented.
Again, I just hope that it's people who've played in the band before that are on board for this....with the obvious exception being the drum seat which will be someone new.

I wonder if Joe Magistro from Magpie Salute or Tony Leone from CRB will be Gorman's replacement.
According to Gorman's book when he came back in 2005 they were dumping Bill Dobrow and were about to bring Jeff Sipe in when he finally agreed to come back.

Thought it was nice of him to not mention Dobrow by name out of respect for the guy.
Knowing how these two jokers operate, I bet both Magistro and Leone are out because they both played in the other one's solo band. It sounds petty, but.......let's be honest. I'm curious how this will all shake out too. I saw Gorman speak last night at a local record store here and it was really insightful. It also slipped out that the brothers will be making an announcement next week so sounds like we'll find out then. It was also asked if he'd heard from anyone regarding the book and he mentioned he hasn't heard from anyone named Robinson (obviously), but had heard gracious responses from pretty much everyone else. "Closure" was the world most used.

You couldn't be more mistaken " I know Steve Gorman likes to think a black Crowes show can’t go on without him but it can. Especially if they do it right."
Gorman has been very clear that his regret is there was never a celebration of THE BAND Black Crowes BY the band. Which will not happen. He isn't into being part of the bRand.
The brand is what you are gonna get when you go see the crowes next tour, with Chris, Rick and sidemen
Like phony Skynyrd, but at least the Crowes keep the Voice of CR.
.this site is funny, chris and rich plus maybe sven=phony crowes
gregg , butch and jaimoe=real ABB
I totally agree with this. Three ABB members is okay but three Crowes members is not. How many are enough? I find the conversation a tad silly. Why the comparison? It sort of reminds me of people on this site railing on Skynyrd.

It all depends on what each individual feels about the band. It will differ from person to person.
Why the comparison, because there hadn't been a Dickey vs post 2000 ABB argument in this thread and it is required.

I regularly listen to and enjoy Black Crowes shows from throughout their history including all eras - and the only ones I don't love are the Jackie Greene and Jeff Cease era stuff - and I still like those shows well enough. In all those shows spanning 1990 to 2013 - the Robinsons and Steve Gorman's drumming are the only constants. While I'll miss Gorman's drumming, I'm confident they can find a solid replacement this time around. I have shows with Paul Stacey on guitar and Rob Clores on keys that I really like and I'd never heard of either of them before they were hired. I have little doubt they'll be able to put together a great band and I'll go see them with pretty much whoever they can bring together.

I know Rich and Chris both have talked very highly of their own respective drummers. I cant say much about Tony Leone because CRB is not my flavor, but I really like Joe's playing with Rich. He compliments the guitar work and song very well.
Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Finally finished Gorman's book.
Even after spoilers, Hoffman forums, reading about the battling
brothers and especially how Jimmy Page got tossed off
the island was a shocker.
Left out completely is how the two of them got like that,
before the rock n roll lifestyle started...I just can't imagine the
depths of that kind of sibling animosity or the energy it takes to
so constantly screw over the people around you.
They are both utterly 100% out to lunch.

Sounds like a heckuva compelling-if-not-depressing read alright, Wow - it got like that w/ CCR’s Fogerty brothers too, total estrangement - didn’t seem as bad in the Kinks w/Ray & Dave - nor w/2 dudes named Duane & Gregg 😉
Will be interesting to see how the Black Crows sound on the tour

Some news.
It sounds like Gorman sums it up
"This reunion, I’ve heard from many sources for several months that this is happening," he said. "This ain’t got nothin’ to do with trying to re-find a musical connection. This is a very different motivation and impetus, so the last thing that the brothers Robinson are going to do is involve someone who is going to take a chunk of the pie away from them."
"And again, they wouldn’t ever think of approaching me," Gorman added, "but it’s going to be a pretty tough thing to make sense of, six years after Chris said, 'I need all of the money or I’m never doing this again' and then suddenly saying, 'Okay, I’m ready to do it again.' I mean, it just speaks for what’s going on. They painted themselves into a corner and they need to go out as the Black Crowes, and I don’t think, frankly, they give two flying fucks who is in the band onstage with them."

If the Robinson Brothers are there then I am in.

Like I said sales start in a few minutes and that is for ALL markets. Around $150 a ticket not including your plats and all the other bs.

Ill say this and I knew it would be this way but the pricing structure just made me laugh. ZERO chance I go to this tour now.

You can go in Atlanta for $29 + Fees and sit on the lawn. Can get just under the roof for $70 + fees.
We knew it wouldn't include Gorman, but if it had included Marc Ford and 1-2 other other alumni and I'd pay for a decent seat.
If they had attempted to put together some of the original lineup from the first album (minus Gorman of course) that would have been interesting. Chris & Rich and hired guns? Not real interested, though I do see TTB alumnus Tim Lefbre on bass.
Not sure why the Chris digs on the different versions of the Crowes. I enjoyed every show of theirs I saw between 2005-2013.
If some friends are going and I can snag a ticket for $40 bucks, I wouldn't rule it out.

They are a bit more ambitious with the venue size than they should be at this point. It will be fairly easy to get a good priced ticket closer to the show dates.

Steve Gorman is on the State Of Amorica podcast today (taped yesterday).

On an ABB related note, former TTB member Tim Lefebvre is the new bassist.

I was amused to see them say in the RS article no jamming. lol

No opening bands announced. Interesting. Probably waiting to
see how tickets sell. Then if sales are slow they can add Allman-
Betts, Marcus King Band or maybe even a higher-profile act.

If tickets don't sell what the heck would Allman Betts do for them at that price? They can't sell out their own shows for less than $50 a ticket. Warmup act is not going to do them any good on a shed show if they can't sell it on their own.

Chicago is $18 plus fees for the lawn. You can get under the roof for $29 plus fees. Pretty cheap for this market. Too bad I can't stand the venue.
This is kind of funny. I think I am going to see Trigger Hippy (Steve Gorman's band) Friday at a small club in Chicago. Costs about the same as the Crowes tickets.
Might have to get his book here this week and have him sign it.

My 19 year old nephew asked if the Black Crowes were Chris Robinson's new band.
