Berry Oakley Jr update

He's touring with Live Dead & Brothers. Going to see this in late October at the Bethel Woods (Woodstock) Theater. Band includes : Tom Constanten (Dead), Mark Karen (Ratdog) Les Dudek and Duane Berry Oakley Jr. They have a couple of videos on YouTube. Expansive setlist. Check it out 👍 😎

It's interesting Devon Allman, Duane Betts and Berry Oakley, Jr. as far as I know NEVER discuss WHY Berry Oakley, Jr is no longer part of Allman Betts Band and Devon and Duane Betts' solo bands!! Apparently they are not on speaking terms.
I sure would like to know what in hades happened!!
Here is the band Berry is working in now. And Oakley sings Blue Sky!!! In a recent interview Oakley said in response to Dickey's passing that Dickey was one of a very few men who was like a father he never knew to him.

Can someone explain the Les Dudek ABB connection

@mulemewarren After Gregg and Cher divorced, Les Dudek dated her for a brief time.

Les had been playing around FL in the 60s and early 70s. He ended up in Macon, like a lot of players in the south after Capricorn opened up, jamming with Dickey which lead to his playing harmonies and acoustic guitar on Brothers & Sisters. That includes "Ramblin' Man" which was the last recording Berry played on.

Thx 😎 Looking forward to this show. Small venue 4th row.

Les Dudek is playing the first instrument (acoustic guitar) you hear on the studio version of Jessica.
Lead guitar: Dickey Betts.
Piano: Chuck Leavell
Organ: Gregg Allman
Bass guitar: Lamar Williams
Drums and congas: Jaimoe
Drums and timpani: Butch Trucks

We all know he can play, but he can sing and WRITE.
Too talented to be doing cover band mash-up projects.
Glad he's still out there, but hope he finds his groove.

@islalala I bought his solo albums when they came out in the 1970's. They were on Columbia Records.
His "Say No More" album had "Old Judge Jones" on it. It's a Les song.
Here is a live version that cooks.
And the original studio version from the Day No More album and this track got airplay on album rock stations.
It looks as if Les doesn't have a record deal now and it often playing small venues. If he has a record deal now I wasn't able to find info just now.

Oh I'm sorry. Yes I saw BOJ several times in the Allman Betts Band playing bass guitar, singing on some songs and he was always good and fit in well with Devon Allman and Duane Betts.
If you get the chance to speak with BOJ at the show and feel comfortable doing so, ask him what happened between him and Devon and Duane Betts.
I've never seen or heard a word about it and when I saw Duane Betts and Palmetto Motel in July of 2023 I was told Berry didn't do the latest Palmetto Motel tour but the Allman Betts Band took a long break and they are all still good friends and have some dates coming up in the fall of 2023.
But when they did those dates Berry Oakley Jr. was NOT in that band anymore either.
It's too bad the Allman Betts Band has those issues and stopped playing for months as they were beginning to draw good crowds and they had two albums out.

The guy (BOJ) has gotten make living. I understand he's had some rough times the last several years, so him getting gigs is a good thing. As for Devon and Duane from my interactions, they've got pretty big egos.

@islalala for my$, BO jr has more soul than Duane Betts and Devon Allman put together.
Put BO jr back on stage with Jr Mack and jaimo a few more times... That's southern cookin'

Yes it is, & same is true of the Allman-Betts Band, Friends of the Brothers or whatever the lineup of musicians might be - good reminder, been awhile since a Bless Your Heart listen, that will change🎼🎸
you know Berry will be in the pocket w/that new band
you rock Devon & Duane!🎶

Would love to see BOJ with the "Friends"

Les first came to Macon with another musician from Florida to tryout for a band that they'd heard Dickey was putting together after Duane passed and the Allmans were in flux. Les stayed in Macon and roomed with one of the guys in Grinderswitch. Eventually Boz Scaggs who was centered in Macon at the time asked Les to join his band and that group toured all over the US in '73 & '74. Les transplanted to LA and started his own band(s) some including players from Boz's group and at other times guys who ended up in Toto. Eventually he signed a four album solo deal and then in the late '70's the label created the Dudek, Finnigan & Krueger trio band. After that, he played solo shows with bands he put together and eventually relocated back to Florida where he grew up. Still lives there today.
"Is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?"

Coot thanks for the info
