That is very interesting. Dickey always referenced how key and important Berry's bass playing was so KEY to that unique sound the band had from the beginning. 

Oteil played bass longer than anyone who had that chair in the band and Butch Trucks said Oteil was probably technically the best musician ever in the band* So it carries weight that Oteil is very impressed with Berry Oakley's bass contributions to the songs they recorded while Berry was living. 

* I tend to take some of Butch's statements with a grain of salt as he occasionally made outrageous statements about musicians such as Dickey, Derek Trucks, Ed King, the Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin and others. But I loved Butch and he was the backbone of the band from start to finish.
