I like later versions of Metallica because it allowed us to not have just one great band, when they fired Dave, it gave us two great bands.

I prefer MegaDave over Metallica.

James Brown once fired his drummer in between sets.

I preferred the later band.

This might ruffle a few feathers and I don't mean it to but I love Van Halen with Hagar, especially the first album. The thing about that I've always thought is that I kind of consider them to be two different bands, one with Roth and one with Hagar. The Hagar version sounds more vocal and synthesizer driven. Definite 1980s feel.

The 1970s VH sounds more heavy into the guitar work of Eddie.

My two favorite VH albums are one from each: Van Halen and 5150. Again, two different sounds to me. Not that one sounds any better than the other though.

Everything in Moderation. Including Moderation.

Had one, killer "knock off" of the JD baseball jersey.
Waffle Stomper boots, Bell Bottom jeans, flannel long sleeve over shirt...typical so. Calif.stoner ensemble of thevmid/late 70's

Photoron286. You like Billy, Dusty and Frank better than Gibbons, Greig and Mitchell. Second lineup was Gibbons, Ethridge and Beard. And when they failed to get signed by an American lable they signed to London Records but the bass player did not want to be involved with that label so quit and was replaced by Dusty Hill. I guess Ethridge later decided he screwed up as Hill is worth 60 million dollars now. Billy is worth 75 million now and Frank Beard is 50 million.

They got their name when Billy was putting together the original lineup and he liked B. B. King and Z. Z. Hill. So he chose Z. Z. King. Told it wouldn't work, already several King's out there, Billy said B. B. is is tops for me so let's go with Z Z Top. Billy insists it has nothing to do with Zig Zag and Top rolling paper.

I have a cousin who is HUGE into Z Z Top so I have been told the story several times. We saw the band the first time together in 1972 when they opened for Alice Cooper. Our girlfriends were hot to see Alice and we were surprised by how hot Z Z Top sounded and my cousin flipped for them like I did for the Allmans in 1970.

They were dressed in Western cowboy cloths then with no beards. The new look came about when they got back together after several years being idle due to creative stagnation and completely burned out from constant touring.

I've only heard the Gibbons, Hill, Beard lineup and so has almost everyone.

Very cool info, Blackey. So ZZ Top's name came about kind of like how Pink Floyd's did.
