1. Never got into

2. Late discovering

3. Scratched that itch no really don't listen to a whole lot any more

Me....

Never got the Springsteen thing, Van Morrison, Pearl Jam, Grateful Dead,Pink Floyd. None of those never appealed to me or did anything for my musical appetite. Respected Hendrix and Vaughan as far as guitar players, but that was about it.

Over the last few years started diving into Grandfunk  Railroad more, Asia, Grant Green, Dead Daises, Bernie Torme, maybe a few others. I knew of most of these but really never got deep into the catalog. The same with the ABB. It was about when I got into my medical schooling/training when Seven Turns came out 1990. Heard Good Clean Fun, and it was off to the races from there!

Even though they are and probably one of my all time fav's and always will be , is Zep. I will grab Physical Graffitti the most of any and put that on , or some select fav's, but not a whole lot other than that. Classic rock radio killed a few bands for me. Bad Company, Skynyrd. I go to deep tracks on them. The first VH release, hardly listen to anymore, even though the are in my top favorites. The Allmans to a degree. I go live stuff from them for the most part.

Good post, classic rock radio/AOR etc beat into the ground albums/songs I really liked, as you said the 1st VH, who’s next, Fly Like An Eagle, the 1st Cars album, many others

was real late discovering Grand Funk - finally rounded up some of their stuff, Survivor was one, then made up a composite tape which is a fave (it was mid-1990s or so) - those layered harmony vocals at the end of I Can Feel Him In The Morning are not of this earth

Never got into= Iron Maiden- just never got into their brand of metal. Also most punk as it all sounds the same to me after a while.

Late discovering= Savoy Brown, really got into them about 10 years ago and bought  all their early albums up to and including Boogie Brothers. The Dead are another band  I did not get into until about 15 years ago but I can only take them in small doses.

Scratched that itch= I was a big fan of Jethro Tull in High School but lost interest once I went to college. Still love those early album up to Passion Play but never seem to put them in the rotation. Same with Rush, I liked their first several albums when the were more Rock but lost interest the more Prog they got.

In my teenage years, Kiss was all the rage. I never got it. Same with Aerosmith, except for Get Your Wings, they have never done anything for me. My tastes ran a little older than my friends, they were listening to the latest by Bad Company and BTO, I was listening to Ten Year After, Jefferson Airplane, early Grand Funk Railroad, The Who and Mountain.

Didn't appreciate the Grateful Dead until the early 90's, and then Garcia was gone in a year or two.

Don't care for the E Street Band, but do like Bruce Springsteen by himself with acoustic guitar.

Never got into Genesis, Kiss, Tull, Yes, Joe Bonamassa. Most of those just never quite did it for me. Bonamassa has done a tremendous job of producing and promoting other blues musicians who haven't been well known or as financially successful as him, which I do appreciate. His playing although technically proficient just has never caught on with me (and I've tried numerous times to get into it). Laughably I got into The Beatles late. When I first heard them on Ed Sullivan you couldn't so much hear them above all the screaming teen girls, I didn't see what the big deal was. But later, when I delved into Revolver, the White Album etc. I got a much deeper appreciation for the songwriting and musicianship. So, late to that party!

Late discovering= Savoy Brown,

Yeah....me too. I actually got more into they're most recent releases over the last decade or so. Good stuff!!!

Kiss was all the rage

Funny you bring them up. I really never got much into them and never knew anything about they're catalog beside the radio stuff. I started listening to a pod cast called "Pod Of Thunder" ,which I HIGHLY,HIGHLY recommend, about a year ago. They are on they're 10th year of doing the show. They started out just reviewing the KISS catalog song by song and after that, just random artist. I went through and did all the random stuff first and currently, but a few months ago I started the KISS stuff. More so because the guys that do the show are pretty funny and have a good chemistry.  They take the band to task ,but also give then they're due. They talk about the song and random things as well. I cant say I have become a huge fan of the band now, but I do like some of the deep album stuff and later material that I have never heard. I have some respect for them.

I am with you on JB. I think once you have heard one of his albums, you heard them all. That's just my opinion. I feel the same way about Gary Moore's blues years.

Robin Trower is another " late to the party " for me. I have most of his stuff from the last 10-12 yrs . He did an album with Jack Bruce in 2007 called "Seven Moons" which is good and they also have a live album called "Seven Moons Live".  I need to check what they did earlier on with BLT and Truce.

West, Bruce and Laing is another I need to investigate.

Couple things....

This is probably blasphemy to say, cause I love VH, but they're version of  "You Really Got Me" never liked and will skip it if it ever comes up. Same with "Running With The Devil". That one was kinda like, meh , for me. Take it or leave it.

Speaking of radio. I rarely listen to it, but after church yesterday morning I flipped it on. There is a station out of Bloomington ,Indiana WTTS 92.3 . It is a college town station and they have always been pretty diverse as far as music and not killing the same old usual suspects.

These two popped up back to back

My wife has this cd , but this tune came on. Forgot how good this one is. Knopfler is one I never followed.

I don't think this is the exact version, but pretty close. Still cool.

1. The band that I never got into that comes up the most is the Grateful Dead. I've figured out why I don't dig them, but does it even matter? Some music just doesn't ring your bell.

2. I used to roll my eyes at people who raved about "early Fleetwood Mac" when they were bluesier. I always imagined their Rumors-era pop music but bluesier and figured they were Stevie Nicks fans who didn't know what blues music was. Then I happened to hear "Albatross" and took a dive into Peter Green and am glad I did.

3. With 2 older brothers listening to 70s rock I listened to a lot of Zeppelin growing up. I spin a song now and then, but if I never hear a song off of LZII I'll be fine. It's not that I don't like it, I'm just over it.

Thought about it some more and a couple of other musicians/ Bands that never clicked for me.

Old school..............Frank Zappa: I appreciate his talent and the great bands he had over the years but his music never clicked for me

More recent..........Dave Matthews Band: I have a good friend who is a fanatic to the point where he travels all over the country to go see them almost like a Deadhead type devotion. He had an extra ticket one time and I went with him just to hang out, see if I liked his music better live,  and I will go see just about any live music. We did not have seats together so I spent most of the concert crowd watching as I find Matthews music pretty bland. He also has a very talented band but I just can't get into his music.

Zappa always seemed kind "out there" for me . DMB, nothing wets my appetite from them. I know some people follow that band around, kinda like the Dead.

I got into Zappa with "Bongo Fury" (1975) due to Terry Bozzio.  One of my early drum heroes.

DMB is torture to me

I bring this up kinda based on a topic I have heard a few different times on a podcast.

Not sure if there would be many fans of this artist /band on this site or not. I' m not.

This Foo Fighters and Dave Grohl, I don't quite understand the mass appeal for them and they're music. He seems to be the poster child for rock and roll and the "go to " guy when someone is needed to represent that genre'. Not sure he or that band would be at the level the are now without the Nirvana connection. Yeah there is talent there but really, that good and big/popular? I dont see it. To me they're sound is nothing but the 90's/ 2000's heavy meat head rock . Very generic.

It could be an "age thing " with me. Not that I consider myself old(who does?!?! 😋 ). But they kinda fall outside of my style of music and my formative years of developing music tastes. I still do enjoy plenty of current/ new bands. I always like to find some fresh stuff thats up my alley. I like it heavy and rocking as anyone, but as I mentioned , not 90's -2000's genre from above. I like to think I am open minded and can be objective on these issues. There is some music out there I dont care for, but I can see why it might be appealing. But with FF and them being as big and popular as they are? Dunno.....

I tried listening to the new one. All sounds the same for the most part.

Maybe someone can enlighten me on the attraction of that band and change my mind.

I saw this band once in 1973 and bought their album on the Rare Earth label. They reminded me of a cross between Blood, Sweat and Tears, Chicago and the Temptations.

It was a good popping show and the singer/drummer was impressive but I lost interest after a few months and the lead singer/drummer must have lost interest too as by 1975 he had left.

@jszfunk David Grohl is the drummer that gave Kurt Cobain the pop and timing he needed to go commercial but Kurt didn't give a darn from what I read about being successful commercially and about being an accomplished musician and guitar player. Indeed Kurt said he didn't give a crap about Eddie Van Halen or Jimmy Page or Jeff Beck and all the technical crap they studied and it just got totally in the way of PURE ENERGY AND CREATIVITY.

Here is Kurt Cobain explaining that musicianship and all the nonsense that goes with it is a big bore and waist of time to him!!

Now they claim David Grohl and being a technical efficient drummer is what put the sparkle and success Kurt had somewhat overnight. Kurt became a SUPERSTAR and the most famous and successful singer/guitarist and songwriter on the planet. Suddenly he was a multimillionaire!! But this has a negative impression on Kurt. He killed himself at the pinnacle of his tremendous success.

Look at how many views this track has had on YouTube. 1 BILLION 600 MILLION!!!! Find something by Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones or Van Halen viewed that many times. When Kurt killed himself at age 27, he was by far the most successful musician on the face of the earth. Kurt Cobain just doesn't make any sense to me. It is nutty.

Here is a track viewed on YouTube over 1 billion and 600 million times!!! That is insane. What is it about this that makes it so popular???

@jszfunk David Grohl now is the lead singer and guitarist for the Foo Fighters. They are incredibly famous and successful now.

I'm 76 years old and perhaps behind the times but I can't explain why they are that famous. They to me are like J.J. Cale or Don Williams. Okay and talent is there but it never steps out and grabs you. They don't have a Honky Tonk Women type song to hit you with.

I can only assume at my age and understanding it the Nirvana connection, David touched that magic and holy grail of whatever it was that made Kurt Cobain so crazy popular.

I do not listen to much Led Zeppelin any longer.  Most everything else I did still finds a way to get played at some point.

Late discovery was Drive By Truckers.  My friend tells me I actually gave him the Decoration Day CD years ago because I didn't like it which I have a hard time believing because I am listening to it every day right now.  That and Jason Isbell.  I know there have been fans on here for many years.  I'm late.

Kurt Cobain sounded so tortured and unhappy to me that I almost could have predicted he would off himself.  Never got into Nirvana.  Late getting into?  The Grateful Dead.  I hated them for most of my adult life.  But then I started hearing bands cover them, like the Bay area's excellent China Cats, and Gov't Mule.  I started to realize that there were a LOT of great songs in there.  Still cannot tolerate the pointless noodling, but that doesn't cancel the great tunes.  American Beauty must be appreciated as a great, great record.  The only other thing I own is Skull and Roses, which also has it's moments.  I have never seen them and likely will not make it to see Dead & Co.  Warren Haynes once said about the Dead (I quote from memory), "There is a vast reservoir of great material there.  You can either appreciate it or ignore it."
