ARETHA-RIP

[Edited on 8/16/2018 by dadof2]

One of my favorite songs on the Duane Anthologies is It Ain't Fair. Even when the 7 CD Skydog set was released, it still stands as one of my favorites even though Duane is barely on the track, playing those subtle licks in the background. Aretha just slays it.

Aretha Franklin - Good to Me as I Am to You

She touched everybody's lives with her music and her spirit. She made the way for everyone else who came later to have the chance to be heard. There will be 4 days of celebration in NY for her. All I can really say is thank you for what she gave to all of us - especially all the white girls who have sung her signature song R-E-S-P-E-C-T. Her music transcended musical, status, and racial boundaries that existed at the time she made her music. Soul Music got played on AM radio even in New York, that is an achievement at the time her songs came out.
It is very sad she died of pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic and ovarian cancers take too many lives and often go mis-diagnosed until it is too late. People need to be aware of that.

Always The Queen.
God bless you Aretha
And thank you for a lifetime of incredible music ....
