Over the years on here I noticed mixed reviews on pretty much every guitarist except those two. Wondering if there are any others?
Never seen any negative comments on Rory but am probably wrong.
Same with Derek but am also probably wrong since their are probably 10,000 plus comments on him.
Great topic, hmm lets see Dickey who wrote so much ABB material and carried the torch. Jack, Warren and fellow brothers. Eric C - where do you start etc. Too each his own I guess but always amazed at some of the negative comments on what I would consider great players.
Never noticed any negative on Derek Trucks. Derek is fantastic but I dont agree with some here who say he is the greatest guitar player ever. And the last lineup was the peak for the Allman Brothers. People are welcome to think that about the last lineup but Warren, Derek and Otiel acknowledged Duane, Dickey and Berry as the high watermark for the band which is correct. Bragging about Bag End and Rocking Horse as if they were the band at its creative peak. Sorry but as much as I love and respect Derek, Warren and , Otiel, the ABB at its creative peak is Liz Reed, You Dont Love Me, Whipping Post etc on Fillmore East and Blue Sky, Jessica, Midnight Rider etc etc etc.
Now don't think I'm not a Derek and Warren fan. I saw TTB last year and they were fantastic. Technically one of the best on the road right now.
How about Jack Pearson. Never saw any negative on him and he is a wonderful player.
Saw negative remarks on Clapton and SRV just recently. And part of it was due to them being Strat players.
Warren Haynes was just playing some Strats on the Dark Side of the Mule shows and it wasn't his Les Paul tone but still fantastic to me.

That was likely me, and I wasn't being negative. They are both great players, I was just saying I am not a huge fan of their tone. People can appreciate artists' talent and abilities without necessarily being a fan of the sounds and styles they produce. I don't like to rag on music that others clearly enjoy because it's all subjective.

I love Albert King, but I thought it was universally accepted by even his biggest fans that he played 5 licks, but those 5 licks were INSANE AMAZBALLS.

Seen a bit of distaste for Derek's style and band choices.
Garcia, no way on the list, I've seen plenty of smack talking on him and even more on the Dead. Some of the old 73 era folks are quick to distance themselves from the Dead when talking about Watkins Glen for example.
I agree with the above lists folks posted. When I think of Duane I often wonder about the great players that we may have never known if not for him. That could be a thread full.

Definitely not. Don't get me wrong, I love Robertson's playing and the music he helped write, I'm a big fan of The Band. But there is a lot of ill will towards Robertson out there and some of it I've seen echoed here. Misplaced or misinformed? Sure, maybe, but it's out there.

Going to see him Sunday. Curious to hear what he is like live. My favorite thought of him is the version of "People Get Ready" with Rod Stewart in the 80s. Definitely not what he is known best for but a beautiful rendition.

Speaking of Metal, if Rage even belongs in that category . . . I was just thinking last night -- while at a Radiohead concert -- how completely awesome Tom Morello is.
And his post-Rage work and guest appearances really show his versatility.
(Why was I thinking this at a Radiohead concert? Because I was struck by how good Greenwood's bass playing was last night, and I started thinking about how awesome it was to listen to Commerford play bass live with Rage, which then got me thinking about Morello. So, it wasn't totally random.)

I saw Bromberg two weeks ago at a very small venue. He was great; but joked about how he used to be the fastest flat picker around; and now he's the slowest one in his band.
