Any TTB Sunshine news or reviews?

All I've found is this interview with Derek from the 13th. He mentions it they have written a bunch of new material for a 2017 or 2018 album. Hoping they played some this weekend.

Only this.

We had Sunshine Boca festival tickets, but had to catch Packers game instead (hey, priorities), so I only caught most of TTB's set. I really only missed seeing Mavis Staples, the rest of the lineup didn't really interest me much.
It was a pretty solid, Oteil even sat in at the end which was nice to see and hear. They did a brief tribute to Leon Russell, Dave Mason sat in for "Feeling Alright" (which I had just witnessed at the Beacon in NYC last October).
Went to the Funky Biscuit for the after show, but only stayed about an hour. Caught Ben Sparacco's set, which I had just heard a couple weeks ago before Butch's show. He's going to be really good one day very soon, he's still finding his voice. It's interesting witnessing someone who grew up listening to Derek Trucks and hearing that influence in his playing, because when he picks up his Gibson SG, you can hear Derek's tone and licks all over the place. But when he picks up a telecaster, he sounds completely different in style and tone. The girl who sat in on vocals for "Lovelight" was really good, but the sound was kind of a mess - there was a banjo player on stage who might as well have been unplugged.
We left after a few Mike Schofield tunes - great, tight backup band, but there just aren't that many guitarists who can singularly hold my attention at length these days.

Ben is a very talented player.

I was lucky enough to attend both festivals this year. They did good job with the line-up, as every act was solid and different. Dave Mason was a pleasant surprise. He was much better than I anticipated. Good vocals and solid guitar playing. He did a nice version of low Spark of hi heeled boys and all along the watchtower. Mavis Staples was fun. Joe Russo was probably the most impressive. Those guys really push each other and the end result is some of the best interpretations of Dead music I've heard in a long time. Was my first time seeing Bruce Hornsby and I'm glad I did. His stuff sounds beautiful. He slipped in a sweet Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb in Boca. Derek was definitely more on fire in St Pete. He had some blistering solos on Saturday night and they let many others take turns singing. I live much closer to Boca but the Sunshine Fest at the Vinoy Park in St. Pete is a 100x nicer than Mizner Park in Boca. The attendance at Sunshine music fest has outgrown the park long ago. They need to upgrade to a different place. There is absolutely no room for anyone at the main stage area if you don't have seats up front. It's a hassle and uncomfortable every year. The after show at the funky biscuit was good. The highlight was watching Ben Sparacco and Albert Castiglia trade licks. Both are monsters on guitar. Ben S. does play that SG like Derek and I hope to see him playing for much bigger crowds one day. After Ben's set a guy came on and played some terrific Texas blues, very SRV-like. He brought up Barry Oakley Jr toward the end of the night. Don't know what happened to all the guests that were supposed to show up to the after show - perhaps I showed up too late but it was still a nice night.

This was my first time at Mizner, and I wasn't too impressed with the location. We almost didn't get in, we arrived just after TTB went on and some kid working the gate said they weren't letting anyone else in because their ticket scanners were down. That was an insane way to handle it, but he threw up his hands after I said we are going in or getting a full refund.
Anyways, we got in and it is cramped in there. Nice spot for a show, but not an all day Festival. I would have gotten cabin fever hanging out there all day. Plus it's Boca, so the venue is at the end of a tacky mall. The St Pete Fest is on the water, right? It would be nice if they could find a spot near the beach for the Sunday Atlantic coast show.
Glad to hear I didn't miss any big guests late at the Funky Biscuit, I was expecting it to be more of an extension of the Festival.

The Vinoy Park in St. Pete is on water and sprawls out approximately three the size of Mizner Park. It was my first time seeing the festival in St. Pete and I doubt I'll go back to Boca. Mizner Park is in a cramped outdoor tacky mall and it's a mess every year, which I think detracts from bands who play on the mainstage. I bought seats this year and it was still a mess. It's nice that South Florida gets this type of festival in the first place (we usually get skipped when people tour) but it's definitely time for a change of venue.

I came down for five days from NYC to visit friends and family and to see the festival at Mizner Park. My friends do and I had reserved seats and we really enjoyed the show. We arrived before Dave Mason and left during the encores of TTB. Yes, the place was packed and it was cramped in the seats. But it was intimate, had a great vibe, and everyone was friendly with a low quotient of assholes.
We plan to go back next year but if it is held in the same venue, we would opt to go for VIP which has seats on the upper level, looks real comfortable and overlooks both stages.
