"March 27th, 1971, the Allmans played at the Sunshine In in Asbury Park, NJ. A show made famous because a little known Jersey Shore artist named Bruce Springsteen was the opening act. A band I worked for at the time was managed by the same guy (Tinker West) as Bruce was and he used to record a lot of Bruces shows on reel to reel. Sometimes he would record over them when our band played. A few years ago I was transferring some of the old reel to reels to cd and came across this tape. Scribbled on the box it said "side two, Allmans Sunshine In". Low and behold there wasn't much on it but we get to hear the last bit of Elizabeth Reed and a full version of Hot 'Lanta. With Duane letting us know that Berry had broken a string. Enjoy!"

Very cool, brother Gary, both the tape and the related story. Cool Cool Cool
Did your band play many gigs on "the island"? Any particular clubs?

And on the official poster advertising the show someone didn't even know how to spell the word "Inn" and put "In" instead. That kills me.

Don - I just quoted the Facebook poster - the tape has nothing to do with me - Dave Ahlers posted it on the Duane Allman Skydog page

Fantastic stuff. I sometimes hope that someday one show will surface with a set-list that is way out of the circle:

DWYNM
Cross to bear
Leave my blues at home
Please call home
Black Hearted woman
Outskirts of town
Hoochie Coochie man
& some rarely played blues gem

You know
Cool

Yes Butch and Jaimoe were coming around the mountain doing 97.

Once Butch said " There are drummers out there such as Steve Gadd or Buddy Rich that are better than me and Jaimoe but man NOBODY does what Jaimoe does. Nobody."

To my ears nobody sounds like Butch and Jaimoe together. The best tandem drum team ever.
