Yeah, I know most here would be aware of this. But I hadn't seen it in years and was blown away by this 33 minute segment all over again. So precious to have this video, and it's my personal favorite of ANY Mountain Jam version I have ever heard.

What sticks out more than anything was Duane's dominance at this point in time. His energy and prowess are at their peak in this incredible 33 minute performance and everyone else is feeding off of him. The shear beauty of his playing, in fact the entire band's playing, in the segment after the drum solo is just stunning.

The other thing that stands out is Jaimoe's incredible drum solo. Hearing him in later years I always thought of him as more of a percussionist, focused on complementing Butch Trucks' driving rhythms. It's easy to forget what a monster he was on the skins, especially when he was just a kid.

And how cool is it that with modern technology I can watch this run through my TV and soundbar???

I was at that show in North Carolina. Yes robslob that is what I've been saying. Duane Allman set the tone of the original lineup shows I saw. He was skinny and had bad teeth but there was an energy, vibe, swagger and drive coming off that young man that clearly was what everyone in the band was plugged into. He had such confidence in the way he presented himself. As if he knew he was the hottest thing on stage in America playing loud rock blues guitar right now and my band is the best and is going to be a huge success. I know it but you guys may not know it yet but I do.

Then when I saw them in January, 1972 they seemed lost. What a huge hole on the stage.

As good as some of the later lineups were, there was an energy and swagger that was lost and never again was in the band.

Jaimoe played like a jazz drummer and his often used traditional grip. Butch used matched grip and played with more power, more straight ahead. Jaimoe often would avoid playing the beat like Butch and would play a lot of tasty jazzy stuff around what Butch was doing. To me the best and most unique two drummer presentation I've seen.

Dickey could get real creative on stage after Duane died and Derek Trucks, especially on slide, could get cosmic and on another planet but nobody had that swagger and crazy energy Duane had. Duane's solos on You Don't Love Me on Fillmore East and Liz Reed have more energy grabbing me through my headphones than almost anybody I've ever heard.

The first time I saw that, I was blown away. Especially by Jaime and Duane
