ABB 29 yrs ago 5-3-1994 "Where it All Begins"

Hard to believe its been almost 30 yrs since this release. I always remember it cause it fell on my birthday and coming home from work that night they did like a radio "World Premier "show of this release. I think it was Westwood One, but I cant find anything about it online.
Play this one loud today (I know I will) and relish in the great music this band has given us!!!
Here is a review from Rolling Stone

Everyone has a plan, till you get punched in the face,

Yes it was Westwood One. I remember listening to the show. They had the band live in the studio but I only remember Gregg and Dickey actually saying anything.
That album was the first new album by the band since 1979's Enlightened Rouges to sell enough copies to earn a gold record which is a minimum of 500,000 copies.
And it was the LAST new ABB album to sell over 500,000 copies.

My first ABB album. My dad was a big fan, so I had heard some stuff over the years, but it never really hit me — I was still young.
then this came out. And I heard Nobody to Run With on the radio, and got the CD as soon as I could. And the rest is history.

That album got me into the ABB as well. The couple of 70s radio hits that I knew at the time didn't do it but this sure did. If it weren't for this I might have never appreciated the old stuff as much as I do now.

Thanks! Been awhile since I've given it a play. Since I have tomorrow off, it's in the rotation! 😀

🤙x2, am kept up on what’s happening thru your posts
the hilites are epic on this album alright, esp title tune & cover art
all those 3 albums from 1989-94 had (to my ears) that sort of ‘hit or miss’ aspect to em
It’s what makes Mycology a valuable document in terms of comps - those 3 albums nicely streamlined/boiled-down, w/a Large-hilite ‘bonus cut’ from Atlanta Pop, EHWoman -
same Hell & High Water, also from 1994 like Where It All Begins - 6 from 1 album, 5 from the other, perfect for the completist - the ABB’s Nashville era, aka Arista - as always the hilites are ABB-worthy-anytime

Will never forget the feeling after spinning this for the 1st time in my car, driving freely to somewhere inconsequential on a gorgeous sunny day when BWIAB came on.
It was like instant validation of what I was into and a compelling thrust to go spread the gospel to as many people who'd listen as possible! 🤣

BWIAB is probably my favorite Dickey song, depending on the day. Maybe Blue Sky as well, both neck and neck. Definitely in my top 5 ABB tunes.

@jszfunk What's Done Is Done is one of my favorites on this album.
I remember the late Allen Woody talking about it in an interview. Said he had much of the music and words done but it wasn't completed and needed something so he asked Gregg to take it and Gregg finished it and it became a good song.

After reading the above post I pulled out the album itself. Woody gets writing credits on two songs.
Jonathon Cain and Neil Schon of Journey? They are on Temptation is a Gun with Gregg. Never knew that. I'm guessing Gregg ran across something the other two had written or something like that.
But the one I was really interested in is No One to Run With. I love that song. But who the hell is John Prestia? Well, apparently he is a singer/songwriter from Nashville. Take a listen to this:
John Prestia - “No One To Run With” Betts/Prestia - YouTube
This sounds pretty much like the ABB version to me. Even the vocals sound a lot like the ABB version.
I hope the guy made a pretty penny of off co-writing credits because he does a great rendition of it.

I believe Dickey and John Prestia wrote the song in 1980 or so, I think around the time Dickey was writing songs in Nashville and working up his Moonlight album demos. Story goes that Dickey walked into rehearsals while the rest of the band was playing a tune in 1993 and said "hey cool song, who wrote it?"
"You did," someone answered. They had dusted it off from those sessions. Supposedly there's a demo of it from 1980 someone that would be interesting to hear. The names mentioned through out the song refer to actual people, though I forget who.
Here's an interview with him: https://www.everyonelovesguitar.com/2018/01/22/john-prestia-interview/
and another performance and he tells more of the story here:
