Thanks for posting that, I really appreciate it. I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise.

Can't wait for the big Hampton 70 extravaganza at the Fox! Only 12 days......

A couple of quick quotes for those who don't want to read the whole thing, which is pretty long.

I have heard this same story about the first time Bruce ever saw Derek Trucks play, in more or less the same words...

"How old was he then?

Nine. And the guitar was about a foot taller than he was. He started playing, and me and Oteil just—we couldn’t breathe. We just went, “What the f- is that?” It was about the second time I’d ever cried hearing somebody play. And it was just hypnotizing; it was other-worldly. He was as good then as he is now, I think."

Some very kind words about one of my favorite bands in the world, The Meters....

"They’re the best band that’s ever lived as far as rock bands. I mean, the tunes they wrote, everybody ripped them off. Everybody is influenced by them. They’re my favorite rock band of all time. They’re The Meters. There’s nothing better. They never got their due, never."

And a bit about Jimi Hendrix, including a tantalizing glimpse of an incredible supergroup that never happened....

"He was very humble. He had no idea how good he was. And you know what? He was gonna go record with Miles and Sun Ra, which would’ve been amazing. But Miles was putting a band together with McCartney, Jack DeJohnette, and Jimi Hendrix. And McCartney swears he never got the text, or the morse code. He said he would’ve done it. And that would’ve been the super-band of all time."

The rest of the article is worth reading--when is Bruce not entertaining?--but I wanted to highlight these tidbits.

Read the interview ! But if you don't, here is another tidbit about Hendrix:

To me, [Hendrix] said, “Man, on my best night, I’m just a bad Freddie King!” That’s really humble, man. He was very humble. He had no idea how good he was.
