I can't believe it's been that long since the Brothers last performance. I certainly do miss the annual trips up to the Beacon. To me, nothing comes close to the power and beauty of the Allman Brothers Band's music.

Long live the Allman Brothers Band!

I miss the Allman Brother's Band severely.  I didn't realize how closely so much of my social life was tied to the band and shows.  So many folks that I haven't seen in a while - so many others no longer with us.  When I'm in an old folks home and people hear me muttering about the good old days - I'll be talking about Allman Brothers music, shows and peach heads!

And it's been five years since Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks passed on.

I was reading an interview with Warren Haynes in the San Antonio, Texas paper and Gov't Mule was about to play a show at a theatre just up the street from a hotel where Robert Johnson recorded songs in a 4th floor room.

The interviewer asked Warren how close was he to Gregg Allman. Warren said very close friends. Then Warren was asked what players would Gregg choose to be in his band in heaven.  Warren said with dead players Gregg would choose his brother and B. B. King for guitar players. Berry Oakley on bass. Ray Charles on piano and Sam Lay on drums. And Gregg would have a horn section. Gregg loved good horn players.

I was surprised Warren didn't mention Butch Trucks on drums.

Wow I can see why Gregg Allman loved Sam Lay

Yes I hardly ever post on here anymore, I used to be on this forum everyday.  Gove mule and TTB are great bands but it's not the same as the ABB.  I was always hoping some unreleased music would surface but it hasn't.

@fender31 Hitting The Note, the ABB's last studio album, is 19 years old. If there are some tracks that didn't make the album, they never came out.

Gregg Allman decided the band would do another album about 2008 or 9 wasn't it, but Butch Trucks was opposed apparently because the last one didn't sell as much as hoped. So Gregg stated in an interview they would go into the studio and record another studio album WITHOUT BUTCH TRUCKS if necessary. But it never happened.

I first saw the ABB in January of 1970 and never before had a band took over my head and life in a sense. And the other people who were into it were my brothers. So I know exactly how it feels too.

The Rolling Stones formed in 1963 and continue to tour but the ABB was 1969 and the band was retired in 2014. Our band, with it's ups and downs and premature deaths has completely disappeared.

The latest albums from TTB are the best new music to me in a long time. Gov't Mule is always a show I never miss. But just like The Gregg Allman Band and Dickey Betts and Great Southern, it isn't the Allman Brothers Band.

I'll be 76 years old December 5th. Most everything for me is in the past including the ABB. When Duane and Berry died the band continued. Then Gregg Allman and Butch Trucks died in 2017. If the band could continue without Duane Allman, Berry Oakley and Dickey Betts being forced out in 2000, we certainly could have an Allman Brothers Band without Butch Trucks. Gregg even threatened to record another album without Butch.

But with Gregg now gone, could the band still get back together? It's hard to imagine an Allman Brothers Band without Gregg as it would be hard to imagine the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger.

But a band called perhaps The Brothers ( no Allman in the name) could come together with much the same lineup as the Brothers at Madison Square Garden and give us fans what we are missing?

If Chuck Leavell and Jaimoe were in it plus Reese Wynans who was playing keys when Duane told everyone they are in the band, it would be as close as we could get it. Like the Dead ( no Grateful in the name) did?

If Warren, Derek etc would consider a tour like that next year I would go to as many shows as possible. But they can't wait long. Jaimoe (78), Reese (74) and me are about to use up all our years.

Oh well. It's likely none of them would consider it especially without Gregg.
