Georgia Satellites

Open All Night & In the Land of Salvation of Sin are great in my opinion.

Especially the latter. Smile

to clarify; by 1st album burnout i mean that artistically the band never reached the same level as they did on their first album. let me add roy buchanan to the list. sales are not to be counted for this list.

You know, Izzy Stradlin & The Ju Ju Hound's first album was not like some innovative breakthrough; in fact, it was pretty derivative stuff, sounding a lot like a Ron Wood album, and in fact Woody was on it.

But man, I loved it. It rocked and grooved so nicely.
However, nothing else he did hit me the same way after.

Rusty's defense of the Cars' first album is right on. That was a breakthrough, a crisp new sound. And anyone who can nail every Elliot Easton lick from that album is a great guitar player.

New Riders of the Purple Sage - N.R.P.S

I dig "Pewerglde", "Gypsy Cowboy" & "Red" just as much. There is a nice little 5 pack CD available for road trips.

These come to mind:

The Zombies
Moby Grape
Television

And if you have Blind Faith I guess you've also got to have Derek and The Dominoes

Montrose comes to mind 1st. Kinda hit or miss after that. I did like the 80's release Mean. That was good.

Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise. They're first release showed a lot of potential , and I was pretty high on it. The 2nd was ok. But after that there were some lineup changes and never the same.

I am sure there are others, need to think for a bit....

I'll agree with Montrose. That first album is perfect. They had some good stuff after that, but never came close to the debut.

Zebra comes to mind. They had good albums after that, but none touch the debut.

Another couple that come to mind are Baton Rouge and Big Country.

Zebra were awesome, played a few shows with them on Long Island in like 81 or 82?
Kelly from Baton Rouge is an amazing singer (IMHO) Seen him with BR, MSG, and TSO.
Don't know much about Big Country except for that one song, maybe should check that album out.
