Was thinking about 1996 because I am getting old. Underated year. Consider after lackluster beacon run, the ABB hit their stride:
- spring 96 shows rule
- Dickey hit wah wah peddle hard
- classic dwynm, not my cross to bear, awtinm opener
-franklins tower intro
-jam opening to ramblin man
-may run in chicago
- crazy improv on true gravity
-'short liz reed
-tombstone eyes, worried down w the blues, I know I oughta leave
- 3 hour plus shows
Yes it derailed at the end but was the pinnacle while it lasted

Not positive but I think that was the year they broke out Tombstone Eyes. I love that song. I have some live shows from that year that are awesome.

I've got a Reno 1996 show that's a beast - swinging "Blue Sky", Woody playing "Mountain Jam" during "True Gravity", epic "Jessica". And I think it's Jaimoe-less, but Marc steps in to pick up the slack. I saw them that year in Milwaukee, my first show, and it was amazing.

It was disappointing that Dickey never really knew what to do with "Tombstone Eyes". It was great when it debuted but devolved into a Bon Jovi song by the time it made it onto Let's Get Together.

After seeing the ABB every summer between 1990-1994, I missed 1995.

This was pre-internet for me. I had enjoyed the Second Set release including Same Thing (new to me), the acoustic Liz Reed and my favorite You Don't Love Me....which I had never heard the ABB play live (and it got a little airplay in Atlanta).

We loved our 1996 show and yes True Gravity blew us away. I should have gone to more than one show as it was the last time time I saw the Warren/Woody lineup.

Fast forward to April 1997 and I read in the Peach Buzz celebrity news section of the Atlanta Constitution about Warren & Woody leaving and Oteil and Jack being in.

Whenever someone says something like this, I get that same anxiety feeling when someone in Lord of the Rings puts the ring on. I'm like, "Nooooooooo...don't do it, don't you know what's lurking about!?!?! You're gonna wake it up!!!" I also thought that era of the band kicked ass for the record, it was different but familiar. it had it's own thing going on within the original framework.

Having said that, I'm going pop some popcorn and wait on for Sauron to show up.

I would love a release or series of releases from that tour. Obviously, the wheels sort of came off with the events of late summer, but those spring and mid-summer shows were so good. True Gravity was a definite highlight. If I recall, there was also a cool Jimmy Hall appearance at the 4/28 show in Knoxville.

Pine Knob, RedRocks, Wisconsin State Fair were all incredible.

I got to see Oak Mountain and Lakewood, which were also strong shows...

Oh wow. Yeah. Good call. I had just moved to Ann Arbor, and went to the Chicago Riviera shows. Epic, epic. I think they were as good as I remember... was also just special because of visiting and going with best college friend... good times.

I was at 3/10 and 3/17 Beacon shows for the ‘96 run - I don’t recall “lackluster” but that is going back a ways!

Great year for live shows! The Dickey, Warren and Woody lineup was something special! Woody channeled Berry like no other bass player in the different lineups.

One of my favorite shows (better not say "best") I ever saw was in June 1996 at Montage Mountain in Scanton, PA; many many moons before the Peach Fest was even thought of....ah, the good ol' days...

I can't stop listening to that Louisville 96 show. The Beacon run was usually the testing ground for the new ideas, new jams, new tunes and new arrangements . This Louisville show took everything the band was playing at The Beacon to a much higher level.

That Louisville show is amazing. I didn't look it up but I played it so many times I want to say it was June 23rd.

And the Chicago shows at The Riv are off the Hook. I think they played five nights. I don't know why but it never dawned on me to drive from Michigan here to see a couple nights. Sure wish I had.

The Brothers closed down the "OLd Brown box" the Greenville Memorial Auditorium on May 1rst, 1996. We had 4th row seats and it was LOUD & an awesome show. Edwin McCain opened. This bootleg is one I visit often. They closed her down in fine style with marathon show. Ft->Blue Sky, a Great You Don't Love Me. Thanks for the reminder. Got it playing thru headphones @ the office this am. Smiling, but not much work getting done! Thanks to the great show trading scene here in the past, We can relive these memorable nights. the road of live encounters may not go on forever, but the music thankfully is out there for those that seek it out!
