100 Greatest Jam Bands

Interesting list. I'm sure most of us would have our own preferences on where certain bands should be ranked but it is fun.

Now, I love me some Primus and would pay money to watch Les Claypool jam by himself for two hours. But, how in the world is Primus a jam band?
The Spin Doctors? Matisyahu? G. Love & Special Sauce?

Butterfield Blues Band as low as 55? That is a travesty.

1. The Grateful Dead
When did they add the "The"?

Hmmm...not too many British representatives.
What about those Welsh wizards, Man?

"Jam Band" is such a generic term. So many of the 100 greatest don't even jam in their songs. They are just guilty by association.

A lot of great bands on that list. Only complaint is that Oysterhead is on that list. Love Trey, Les and Copeland with there own projects but together it just didn't work.

generic term " JAMBANDS " ...

I'm just glad that the Black Crowes are listed high and the CRB aren't even on the list. I hope Chris sees this and maybe an aha moment occurs. The CRB will never be 1/10th as good as the Crowes. I like Neil Casal but Chris has become the antithesis of what he has portrayed himself to be. He is a tinsel town phony all Hollywood out and sh*t.

some bands on there that imo don't jam all that much.
psyched to see Bela Fleck in the 4 spot
Bobby higher than Phil?
Travesty

No Traffic One of the first jam bands I think .Nice to see Antibalas on there my son plays with them.

^^^
cool.
they're very good

This list is hysterical! So, like, there's about 11 jam bands and then just permutations of them for the rest to make up 100! Spin Doctors were a great jam band when they started out, so I can totally see them on the list, but Ween? I've seen them a dozen times and nary a Jam bander in sight! And I saw Primus open for The Pixies and Jane's Addiction, but again, no "jam band". And don't get me started on Matisyahu! Would have liked to have seen Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons or Big Head Todd on the list, but it was definitely good for a laugh!!

just the fact that "Quicksilver Messenger service" is not in the top 10 is a joke as is this list.... not only that but they missed the Mother of all Jam bands Cream!!!!!! they jamed more than anyone for their time 30 min songs and they do not even make the list Like I said JOKE!

maybe i missed them but cream should be on the list and in the top 5

maybe i missed them but cream should be on the list and in the top 5
good call. no cream
also maybe i missed it but is blues traveler missing? i see some john popper side stuff mentioned but don't see blues traveler

Matt, they lumped Blues Traveler in with Popper's other projects. They did this several places in the list.
However, they still managed to find 3 spots in the Top 25 for Primus, Oysterhead, and Les Claypool's Other Projects. We get it, you like Les, but that is just gratuitous. Oysterhead only played, what, 5 shows in their whole "career" as a band? That deserves it's own spot? I think not, sir.
I think they got the Top 3 right, but Butterfield Blues Band at 55 and Aquarium Rescue Unit at 70 were the ones that got me riled up. One of the inventors of the genre, and the best of the HORDE bands, they both deserve to be much higher.

That list is old..... from 2007. I'm sure things have changed since then.

The Smuckers Brothers.
