In a similar vein top dozen Duane licks

Too many personal favorites to go through. But check out "Little David" by the New Rock Band, a criminally ignored gem:
I don't think it's been released except as a 45. I can't find any evidence of a digitized version, but I could be wrong. It's the instrumental B-side of "Rock Steady" without the goofy lyrics. Sounds a bit foundational to "Blue Sky".

"Beat It on Down the Line":
. Jerry tries, but Duane leaves him in the dust. πΒ
"Stand Back"
Duane was heading in an entirely new and different direction. If only...

That Little David is fascinating. Imagine discovering a new Duane solo after all this time. That swing era style drumming suites him so well. Wonder what kind of guitar that was? Before he got that Gibson big sound but so nice too. That Down the Line is a miracle.

"One record producer has said the guitarist [Duane, of course] had a habit of unexpectedly showing up and sitting in on sessions, playing on a number of recordings for which he has received no credit to the present day, thus making a complete discography of Duane Allman virtually impossible"
from: Skydog - The Duane Allman Story by Randy Poe, page 267; Backbeat Books, 2006
Small labels might not have kept detailed records, and some might not exist any more. Will more sessions turn up? We can always hope.
There's an excellent discography at https://duaneallman.info/duanediscography.htm and I think you can find nearly all the confirmed songs on YouTube. If you start at the beginning -- https://duaneallman.info/ -- pack a lunch because you'll be there for hours.

ππΆπ΅ great find, thanks for this Bill - unreal - what tenorsfan said about a previously unheard solo - thx again for uncovering this very rare gem!Β
that was Duane, a rare gem

Considering the obscurities on Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective, I'm surprised that there weren't more of these gems included on S:TDAR, or that there don't seem to be any plans for additional releases. I realize that tracking down ownership can be a problem, but I also remember that there was an uncredited song on the Dreams anthology of 1989. The notes stated that if and when they could locate the composer they'd square the matter. I think it turned out to be Al Anderson of NRBQ. Nobody went to copyright prison so I reckon they took care of it.Β
We need more Duane!

Anyone that knows me or is familiar with my posts, knows I am a less is more appreciator. My most favorite Duane lead is in Mountain Jam. From 25:38 to 30:11, it absolutely floors me. it is melodic and so incredibly soulful, in my opinion. While I clearly recognize his volume of work, for me, this stands out.Β
