You all may have heard about the two times the Allman Brothers Band let me select Peachy peeps to climb on a tour bus, travel with the Band around the country and have unprecedented access to everything ABB. If not, I'll be happy to re-tell the tale. :-) During the second trip several of the "Real Trippers" were chilling outside the bus, jamming on their guitars. No one noticed Dickey and his pup Mugs heading towards the bus from our hotel until, surprise!, he was right there with them. Dickey was relaxed and gracious with the group, chatting for about 15 minutes before leaving. As he turned to go he whispered to me, "Let's see Gregg Allman do that." Boys will be boys! :-) Take care and know that you are loved, Lana

I've been rediscovering the incredible Django Reinhardt, which is how I just learned that "Jessica" was Dickey's tribute to the legendary guitarist.

Very briefly, he was so good on guitar as a teenager that someone(s) from England was trying to locate him to further his career. But around this time he was burned so badly in a fire that his doctor(s) wanted to amputate his right leg, and told him he'd never play guitar because his left ring and little finger were crippled beyond repair. He had so much drive and passion that he quickly surpassed himself, and pretty much every guitarist after.

FFI: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jessica_(instrumental)

FFI#2: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Django_Reinhardt

Django made 900+ recordings in his short career, often performing the same song multiple times, with each version being unique. You can find a lot of his audio on YouTube, as well as a few of the rare known videos of him in action. One of the best is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZ308aOOX04 . Watch him at about 0:42.

I'm pretty sure this is a silent clip with the appropriate tune added.

Track him down!

Dickie Betts' guitar tone drives me nuts!!! As a singing guitarist myself, I've been trying to nail that out of phase solo tone in the tune Southbound for years. I've gone out of phase on both my Gold Top Lester and my ES335. I've swapped out at least a dozen different pups and magnet combinations. I've changed caps 9,653 times . I play Super Reverbs, Twin Reverbs and still have a 100W Marshall ...wtf??? 🤓

I do come close but that isn't good enough. Soon, I'm gonna be older than him ... Does anyone really know without saying its' the fingers???

A million thanks!

So far I have it on
1975 ABB: Win, Lose or Draw
1976 ABB: Nassau Coliseum (mono? poor recording)
1978 Great Southern: Rockpalast
1978 Great Southern: Essen
2000 ABB: Peakin' at the Beacon (does this include Dickey?)
ABB 50th Anniversary, Trouble No More (is this from the Win, Lose or Draw)

Any other versions, recordings would be wonderful. Thank you

I've heard in the past that the inspiration for Seven Turns was from Navajo mythology. But I've never been able to find anything further. There was once mention of a "Navajo Church" elder named Steward Eckley (?) and his shared wisdom & stories.

Anyway, I'd like to find added background on this. It's both a great song & a great mythology = "Seven Turns on the Highway (of life), Seven Rivers to Cross..."

Any info or references welcome. Thanks!
