Posted by: @sangBeen busy doing stuff around the house. We had a 45 foot blue spruce in the front yard next to the house. We had it taken down, along with the 5 bushes we had. Wott a difference! My dad planted the tree about 36 years ago, and it was too close to the house - shingles were turning green underneath it, and it kept clogging the gutters. They took away the tree, but left a lot from the stump grinding - took a lot of work to clean it up. Now that it has rained so much I have to cut the grass about every 3 days.
Playing golf 5 out of 6 days this coming week (weather permitting). First one tomorrow is a charity outing at a private course - it's very expensive, but a lot of fun and includes a steak dinner.
That's interesting about your tree. I've probably mentioned it before but I have a master's degree in forestry from Michigan State. I learned a ton there. Something you may not know about trees is their root system. They can grow underground even longer than the height of the tree. This can lead to all sorts of problems depending on what may be underground such as water pipes, and any kind of electrical wiring, etc. I don't know if you ever ran across this in your career. There are multiple reasons why a tree may have to come down. Some of them you mentioned. An insect invasion from a foreign environment is another.
And it can be kind of sad actually. People can get attached to their trees. Years ago, a neighbor of ours and I had to take down a tree at the cabin. Took us a whole day to do so. It was a hardwood so there were various branches that had to be cut from the top. You can't just fell a tree such as that. Especially in a residential area. This wouldn't apply to a spruce.
Grandma was pissed when we had to cut hers down!
It's nice to hear that you got it down. It can certainly open up the view!

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood 'ol national Lumberjack Day! I can picture Sang atop a 60-foot tree!
In the for wott it's worth department, England had a forestry school before the U.S. did. So Harvey can say at least they beat us in the 1800s after we beat them in the 1700s.

Actually, we beat you long before that ... we had schools before you even existed as the nation you are now ...
Humble apologies to my Native American friends ... you could still teach us a lesson or two despite our schooling ... or perhaps even because of it ...
Anyway, what we do have in common is a love of trees ... but I ain't gonna hug one tonight ... it is raining out and I hear a gin and tonic calling ... have a good evening y'all ...

Greetings ne'er-do-wells!

Played in a charity outing at a private course Monday - it was fun, great steak dinner. Played again yesterday, shot well, and ran into an old buddy of mine from work. Spent some time catching up with him. Had to cut the grass again today - so much rain now it's like every 3 days. Playing golf tomorrow, then going up to visit my brother for a golf and bourbon weekend. This retirement stuff is tough ...

Have you been repairing all ball marks on the green?

Another pretty good round today - now to rest up for the drive up north and a weekend of golf and bourbon ...

How far north? I could use some cheese curds. Settling in to watch the Lions/Packers game. I might have to stay awake past 10:00 PM.
That hasn't happened since the Mule show two months ago.

Played a couple of courses near Rockford and drank a lot of different bourbons this weekend ... a great time was had by all.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood 'ol Audiophile Day! Get your vinyl out.
I need to find my autograpshed copy of Mule's Life Before Insanity. My favorite release of theirs.

Spent a "delightful" day having the water line to my home replaced. It did last a good number of years, so there's that. Not easy going without water for a day, kind of reinforces its necessity. I can set up a Venmo for everyone interested in helping defer the cost....

That may be all well and good but you could put him up at my father-in-law's place. They have good West Lafayette, IN water. Maybe invite Woods too!

I'd like to give you both the benefit of the doubt on not helping defray the costs but I sense you're both just a couple of tightwads!!!!

That's the most sense you've ever shown here ...

I'm sure there must be a Nigerian Princess in need of moving her funds into an American account who could help you out, Steve!

Oh, indeed. Actually, she is a direct descendant of the Republic of Zimbudia's emir. All that is required is a small transfer fee from Sang's retirement account to secure the funds make safe transfer.

Well, Sang, here we go: Bears are about to embark on their journey to 15 straight losses. I think that is the right number, I lost track.
