My guardian angel wears a hard hat ...

I've actually worn a hard hat three times. All to give me a feel for wott we actually did. The first time was to remove a manhole cover from a drain. They warned me ahead of time so I was dressed appropriately. The second time I had to climb a windmill in Texas. That was really fun. You get secured to a safety harness so if you fall you get caught. I wanted to jump off the top of this windmill turbine to see if it really worked and the engineers grabbed me and told me they wouldn't allow that. I thought it would be fun. The most recent one was to get trucks into the loading docks.

It was fun. Each time I was being laughed at because I was the nerdy accountant but it was cool. But I didn't have a guardian. Nor an angel.

The windmill one was the best. I should have taken pictures.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood 'ol No Diet Day!

It is also Beverage Day so I guess you can have a liquid diet today. 😀

I have partaken in multiple libations over the past two days. Birthday eve & birthday. Now, I thought you get one free drink on your birthday. I got three complete bar tabs covered. Didn't pay a dime. I think I tipped more than the cost of the drinks anyway. At least I hope I did. I even did three shots which I never do. It pays to know people.

Thanks for the well wishes fellas. 😀 I still have one more day of birthday week, today. Methinks I will take advantage of it as tomorrow I go to The University of Illinois Chicago's Advanced Prosthodontics Clinic to meet with an oral surgeon. My dentist sent me there. Not looking forward to this.

Yeah, I worked for an alternative energy company. Some thermal, mostly wind. That electricity thing that happened in Texas recently didn't surprise me at all. Actually I was in Texas when I climbed the tower. Dry county. 😉

Yes, wind. Invenergy is who I worked for. Don't recall ever having any interaction with ComEd but maybe we did. I think the Texas organization goes by ERCOT. It's an acronym. Something Council of Texas I believe. They are a total pain in the butt because they won't get on the grid. So wott would happen was there would be multiple suppliers trying to produce energy, which everyone was capable of but there would be too many of us trying to supply energy and they didn't have the capability to take it all so they would shut someone(s) down. Curtailment it is called. We had to have people on our sites 24/7/365 doing nothing at times. So we hedged our output to cover our rears. Worked out well. We made money even if we weren't doing anything.

When we were being curtailed I used to screw with some of the engineers I knew and I'd call them at like 4 AM just to see if they were awake. 😛

I did get some good news today. My foot surgeon looked at my X-ray and said I can get out of my walking boot. I still have the boot and a walking shoe which I wear but I'm glad to get out of the boot. I don't know why they call it "walking". You can't walk in the thing. I still have to go to a specialist Monday but it is still nice to hear.

Energy Reliability Council of Texas which is laughable. Woefully under industry maintenance and reliability upkeep, but by God we're Texans and no government is gonna tell Texas what to do!

So what happens when the whole system collapses due to years of neglect? Governor Abbott "It's the democrats!!! The Green New Deal! No Wind Power when you need it!" Could it possibly be that his administration didn't allocate enough funds? That he was derelict in protecting Texans who couldn't on their own protect themselves?

No, by God it was the Democrats.

(Spent many years in the utility industry so yeah I kinda know just how woeful a system ERCOT was/is.)

Was Abbott on the same flight to Cancun as "Lyin'" Ted?

Looks like they are not selling in Illinois.  When only commercial customers could switch, there were about 6 alternative suppliers.  Once residential opened up, and then the ability to sign up a whole municipality  came about there were about 60.  My department had account managers that handled the suppliers, and an enrollment group to handle any problems switching customers.

Yeah coot, that is the name of the organization. I had some interesting times working in the wind industry. From an accounting standpoint there are a LOT of industry-specific things to learn and know. It takes a couple of years to build a wind farm. In that time you are spending literally millions of dollars to build it without a penny of income. So you take on investors, make them pay your costs for you. Then when construction is complete you are able to produce electricity. Not positive but I think you get to be on the grid, but Texas was different. It was the only state in the country I think that that is the case. As in, you get shut down.

The majority of our farms were in Texas and since they weren't on a major grid we hedged them. They were the only state we did that in. As I said we made out like bandits. Honestly I don't think we really cared if we were producing there or not. Not positive but I want to say you can sell some of your potential output.

Had some fun times working there. Got to travel a bit, met the governor of Wisconsin at a ribbon cutting thing for a plant we built there, went to a plant in Colorado. That one was difficult. The people in Wisconsin were funny. And a pain in the ass. When you build these things they are typically on farmland so you have to compensate farmers for their loss of crop production. They lock into long term contracts with us and they actually get paid annually based on our output. There were all kinds of caveats in the contracts for what we could and couldn't do. You have to build roads through their farms for example. I had an old lady actually get my number and complain about the noise a turbine makes. They aren't loud but there is a noise. Another one complained that when the blades were turning they would "flash" if the sun was out so it bothered her husband's viewing of the evening news. If it was cloudy, no problem. 🙄 I would have a check issued.

And coot I think you are right about Texans feeling they are on their own island as it were. They hated having to answer to us "city slickers" in corporate Chicago. Guess I can understand that.

Fun times!

You got to go to hell before you get to Heaven.

So I went to the hospital yesterday to see an oral surgeon. They basically have to redo my whole mouth. I have a couple of options. The one I want takes a year to do completely. I'll be in and out of the hospital. Just out patient but still. Insurance won't cover it so the surgeon estimated it will cost about $35,000. She did say I didn't have to pay for the consultation yesterday. Gee, thanks. 🙄

I told her my doctor said it would be cheaper than if she did it herself because this is at a university. She didn't lie. The surgeon told me it would be about $65,000 to $70,000 if I go someplace else.

THB is pissed.
