True Colors: 2003 documentary from THE Beacon Concert DVD

This great 2003 documentary was a snapshot of where the band was at in 2003 when they had just released their new HITTIN’ THE NOTE album and recorded and released the LIVE AT THE BEACON CONCERT DVD

This was part of the DVD as a special feature, but was never released any other way until now.

With the coming release of the Gregg Allman, THE MUSIC OF MY SOUL documentary which is a comprehensive tale of Gregg’s entire life plus an in-depth piece also on ABB this stands as an interesting unique look at just 2003

The Perfect Gift for Warren

I recently read that Warren Haynes has teamed up with the Asheville City Soccer Club to create a custom apparel collection with his initials, WH, on the pieces. What a great guy he is and what a perfect gift for any Warren, soccer, or Asheville fan!

Speaking of a perfect gifts, the Allman Brothers Band played at Red Rocks 26 times between 1979 and 2009. When I was with them I often used my free time to roam around nearby cities to shop and grab a bite to eat before getting ready for the show. During one of those rambles I ran across what I considered to be a perfect gift for Warren, a hat.

After determining that it would fit him I took it back to the hotel, put it in a box, wrapped it up, and carried it backstage. When Warren arrived I told him I had a present for him and handed him the package.

"What is it?", he asked.

"A hat. A custom hat with your initials on it."

"You shouldn't have ..." , he continued as he began removing the gift wrap.

"Oh, it was nothing. But I thought if was perfect for you."

Soon he was holding the hat in his hands. A Waffle House paper hat which, of course, had his initials, WH, on it.

Warren thought it was perfect too - perfectly hilarious! - and wore it during the show until the wind blew it off his head. What a great guy!

I was listed as a point of contact on this poster for the ABB's Sept. 1, 1996 show at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. Probably because they were running a Peach Corps pre-sale or promotion.

Butch and the Hospitality Sweeties

I love St. Patrick's Day, especially St. Patrick's Day 2006.

The Allman Brothers Band were in town for their annual run at the Beacon Theatre. The Hospitality Sweeties were also in town, preparing to host a pre-show party for the Peach Corps' extended family in their suite at the Beacon Hotel on St. Patrick's Day.

Rowland and I were already planning to go out to dinner with Butch so I asked him if he'd like to stop by the Sweeties party with us before dinner.

He said, "Sure!" and arranged to meet us in the hotel lobby. He arrived carrying a bottle of wine as a hostess gift (so nice!) ... completely unaware of what he was getting in to.

Up the elevator we went, down the hall, knocked on the door, the door opened and whoooooooooosh. Butch was swept into the sea of peace, love, happiness and joy that's reflected in these photos. These Irish eyes were smiling! Much love!

Tommy Bahama Shirts

Hey there sweet family, while using a Tommy Bahama gift card to buy a shirt for Rowland I recalled something I haven't thought about in years.

Shey and I were attending a luncheon in Nashville, seated at a table with Dickey and Donna.

Dickey was wearing a Tommy Bahama shirt. He said the tag at the back of the neck was bothering him, pulled a small knife out of his pocket and asked me to cut the tag off for him.

"Hold a knife in close proximity to Dickey's neck" isn't a square on the great Bingo card of life I ever imagined. But there it was. So, I took the knife, cut the tag off and (thankfully!) all went well. Much love!

Note to the Teacher

In the spring of 1996 I took Shey out of school for a week to go on the road with the ABB. It was a great experience for her. She was surrounded by wonderful people, heard great music and traveled through a lot of beautiful country.

When the week was over, she was sad to be going home. Especially when Woody asked why we had to. Couldn't we just stay? Shey looked at me with hopeful eyes, but I said "No. We need to get you back to school."

"But, Mom, can't you just write me a note?"

"No."

Then Woody jumped in. "I'll write you a note, Sheyenne". And he did. It read, "Now dig this, Teach', consider it a field trip".
