David Lee's Samurai Screw Up

Wed Sep 24, 4:45 PM ET Add Entertainment -
By Julie Keller

Memo to David Lee Roth: Maybe it's time to lay off the kung fu.

The 47-year-old rocker has canceled the remainder of his tour after a martial-arts move went awry in the middle of set during a September 17 concert in Philadelphia.

"It was an incident onstage where he was doing a kung-fu maneuver and he got hit with a staff that he uses," spokesman Todd Brodginski said in a statement. "He was doing a very fast, complicated 15th-century samurai move."

In other words, Roth knocked himself silly.

The accident, an ill-conceived attempt to emulate his famed "Jump" moves during his Van Halen days, resulted in 22 stitches on his face and forced him to call off the last seven dates of his club and theater tour.

Diamond Dave said the samurai wounds put a crimp in his singing-and-dancing routine and that he would rather return to the stage in full force at a later date than continue with his injury.

"Thanks for a great tour," he said in a statement. "See ya down the road."

What an a**. Of course it has to happen in Philly. Like we don't have enough embarrassing moments in this city.

yeah, like Axl Rose deciding at the last second he didn't want to perform in front of a sold out show...

Complicated 15th century samurai move? Right. They're just trying to make it sound like he was doing something amazing and heroic. The dumbass smacked himself in the face with a staff.

I can remeber many nights crawling home with "Somebody get Me A Doctor" pounding in my head. I guess Dave really needs a doctor now.LOL

at one time he was a great front man....but he sure is wacky now! MTV Awards....anyone? I heard he once had a million $ insurance policy on his....sexual organs and activity.

Axl's bailing of his shows and his new album takes the cake, though. I wonder if MTV's 100 Worst Moments In Rock included Axle's unpredictability.

"Image Hosted by Tripod"? Oh, I see, WharfRat's sold out and gotten corporate sponsorship for his smilies. I didn't realize the Peachies were that big a deal. How many millions is that contract worth, BTW? What are the stipulations of the contract? You gotta use Tripod screne savers on every computer you use or something? Shouldn't at least one of the folks nominated in the best use of smilie catagory get such a contract?
