The nerve of some people..... What were they thinking of, drinking beer at a party?

Let me get this straight ... the President of our country invites a coupe of folks with a quarrel over to the White House (property of the citizens of the US of A, right?) and that's all cool. But a coach has folks over to his place (the one that he holds the mortgage to) for a couple of brews and gets fired for violating the drugs and alcohol on SCHOOL GROUNDS rule?

Just tell me I didn't miss anything!

That's the policy, it's a stupid one, IMO, but it is what it is. I'm sorry, but I don't believe in Just Say No and zero tolerance etc. I teach my teens about responsible behavior, moderation and balance. Nothing in and of itself is a problem until it overwhelms your life...everyone has a different breaking point for that...but to act like no one can responsibly enjoy alcohol, tobacco, drugs etc. is kind of like saying everyone has to drive 35 mph because that's the fastest the worst driver can handle.

This is a good illustration of how ridiculous the zero tolerance policy is and how uptight people in this country have become. Welcome to the fifties.

I'd say it's a crock full of night soil.
A few young reporters that want to make a quick name in the business should follow the super around at a few school functions such as "retreats" paid for by the school system and see if she stops for a quick one after a meeting or during lunch.
Since she is at an official school function, paid by the school system, the entire time she is there
she would, as per policy, stay away from any place where alcohol is being served.
If caught, the first question should be "Since you fired a coach for having drinks in his own home, away from school, but you are here drinking literally "on the clock", does this mean you have tendered your resignation as of this moment?" And keep following her every minute asking the same question, every day, all day.
Hell, they could even make a point of her going into a convenience store that sells alcohol and question her about what kind of "message" that sends to the kids.

Sounds to me like a very big civil lawsuit.
Do the school officials go over school policy at home? Do they take work home from the office?
Do they have alcohol at home?
Could be that they are violating school policy every day?

Another case of the big brother mentality the Cheney regime left us with.

Interestingly, it's a similar policy to most employers' sexual harassment policies where almost any function that includes co-workers can be deemed to be a company event and therefore governed by company policies.

I had a television show when I was 18.....not necessarily a good one, but still I had one. One of the shows didn't sit well with the high school guidence counselor and I was called into the office the next day.

I was informed whatever I did, even in my own time, was a representation of the school and I was to refrain from any further activities that might embarass Decatur High School. (the show was on America history and how little the students were learning....not that it wasn't being taught...just that the students weren't learning.)

I told the guidence counselor that my time was my time, the school didn't get me the show, it didn't sponsor the show , I wasn't representing the school and I'd do what I damn well wanted. The school didn't especially like my 'position' on the issue, but I was never bothered again.

I think the coach has a cause for legal recourse.
