Our resident 14 year old music critic/promoter in training wrote a review of the band performances at Hoopee Jam 2009. We just had to share the experience with all our fans through the eyes of a 14 year old.

Hoopee Jam Review
Bands

The Hoopee Jam was a huge success! We had twenty-five of the original twenty-seven bands that performed and we had no bad performers. We had wonderful performances here and everyone sounded amazing. We had some very big acts like Jimmy Hall, Tommy Talton, Randall Bramblett, and Yonrico Scott.

Friday night we had a very good line-up,which included: Laura Lockie & Charles King, Terry Flynn Band, Soulhound, Tommy Crain & the Crosstown Allstars, Yonrico Scott Band(who was one of the headliners), Phantom Wingo and Turtle Folk. These awesome bands started off the Hoopee Jam and they absolutely rocked it! These bands gave the Hoopee Jam a good start.

Saturday night was absolutly amazing. Sol Junky started Saturday off and they were awesome. Next came Chroma, who got a new fan that day, followed by the Lefty Collins Band, Lefty Williams, and Bonobos Convergence. Then came Highly Kind who were amazing! They have such an awesome sound. The Fly Brothers came next and as always they were rockin'. We also made sure the stage was Justin proof. Diane Durrett follwed them and I had never seen her perform live and I absolutely loved her. Then came Deep Blue Sun who sounded cool. Then came three of the headliners, Randall Bramblett, The Tommy Talton Band, and Jimmy Hall. These were the performances everuone was waiting to see and no one was disapointed. They were amazing as usual! At one point during the night we had Jimmy Hall, Diane Durrett, Randall Bramblett, and The Tommy Talton Band all on the same stage at one time performing together. That was something no one expected to see but everyone loved. They all sounded so good. I had only seen Jimmy perform one other time so I was happy to see him again. I have seen Randall Bramblett and The Tommy Talton Band perform several times before but everytime the sound changes and gets better and better. Then you had the three saxes on stage performing together - that was awesome. The three sax players were Randall Bramblett, Jimmy Hall, and Bert Elliot and they sounded so great when they combined. Jimmy, Tommy, and Randall were just so in tune with each other. Also we had some wonderful keyboarding skills provided by Tony G, some awesome drumming by Scott Phillips and the smoking bass of John Schwenke. Following all of this was Lingo, who I simply loved. Then came Mama's Love who rocked the stage.

Sunday started off with Millhouse who blew the minds of all who heard them. Then came Green Bracelet and Last Waltz Ensamble who sounded pretty awesome. The last band to play at the Hoopee Jam was Blue Ground Undergrass. All of the bands had a really good sound. Sunday was the final day of the Hoopee Jam so this was the day everybody packed up and left for home and all the bands were heading off. Sunday night the remaining volunteers and everyone gathered on the stage and jammed al little.

I just feel so privileged to have had the opportunity to have this concert right in my backyard and had the chance to meet all the band members. All the bands were so good and so friendly. This was the most amazing thing to me and I hope in years to come that it continues to get bigger and better every year, but this Jam, the first Jam will never be forgotten. To all the performers: Thank You and we love you, from everyone who helped with the Hoopee Jam.

Miss Thang

Renee sent me Miss Thang's review, and I just had to add that title. She is a 13 year old music critic and will one day take over as promoter of the Hoopee Jam, while Renee and I are wheeled around in our wheelchairs!

Good job, Miss Thang!

We're proud of Ms Thang. She's definitely not like a lot of kids her age. You can hear anything from Johnny Jenkins to Marshall Tucker playing out her end of the house.
She got a Fender Strat for her 14th birthday, which is the 25th of this month. You better watch her Terry, she'll be bugging you for some gigs before long.
