What would you do in this situation? (The correct answer never occurred to me either).

You're driving along in your car on a wild stormy night. You pass by a bu sstop and you see three people waiting for the bus.

1. An old lady who looks like she is about to die.
2. An old friend who once saved your life.
3. The perfect man/woman who you have been dreaming about all your life.

Which one would you give a ride to, knowing that you could only fit one in your car.

This was a question on a job application to check how a person would respond to a moral/ethical dilemna.

The correct answer will follow.

The applicants reasoned well maybe they should pick up the old lady first since she looks like she is going to die, so morally she should be the one saved/helped first.

However, since your friend is there and he saved your life, you owe him more than someone you don't even know, and this is a chance to pay him back and cancel the debt you owe him.

But then again, if you leave that perfect person there, you may never get another chance, so should you just go for what you need, since it is here right in front of you?

Interesting. I'm going to guess that there is no "correct" answer....

I would have to give a ride to the old friend who once saved my life....

The one who got the job out of 200 applicants did not hesitate. He said, I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the woman of my dreams.

(Don't worry I didn't think that either, I chose take my old friend in the car because if the old lady was going to die anyway, there was no point to do anything, and as to the perfect person, well loyalty must come first beyond our personal desires. If the perfect person is there, I believe they will be there again.)

Well there is only one answer ethically. You have to save a life. That comes above all else. There is no ethical choice and I would not hire anyone who did not know enough to make that choice. The fact that the friend saved your life is irrelevant. You are not being asked to save his life but to sacrifice the life of another to save him from being caught in a storm. If the question stated that both were in peril and you could only save one life it would be a much more interesting question. Does the fact that he saved your life give him a claim over another person who is equally faultless but did not save your life.

This is a twist that shows thoughtful reasoning. Still you must act to save the life. If it turned out the life saver could not drive you would have to save the life.

you give your car to your old friend, have him drive the old lady to the hospital, and then you do the hot chick at the bus stop.

Okay, i see that is the answer. didn't read the thread before posting my answer.

It's a variation of the Fox, Chicken, Corn logic question.

Reading this quiz and thinking about my answer, it becomes even more apparent as to why I'm self employed.

1) Take old, sick lady to hospital. If she's that bad off, I know I can get her to the hospital faster that anyone else driving my car.

2) Throw a couple of $20's to my friend and ask him to call a cab and take them home (hot chick first). Being that he was good hearted enough to save my life, I'm sure he would understand the importance of getting the old woman to the hospital.

3) Get back with friend, get hot chick's address and take her flowers, candy, and an offer of an expensive dinner as a means to apologize as to not taking her home. With her knowing that I'm one of the good guys (hey, didn't I rush a dying person to the hospital) that would give me the inside track to a blissful evening.

Just a thought.....if the chick is that hot....do you think your friend might figure you owe him one and snake her from you on the way to getting her home?

I'd tell my friend who once saved my life to take my car and drive the old woman to safety while I went and built a shelter and made sweet love with my dream girl. Problem solved.

It might even be her idea if she's afraid of thunder and lightening and if his friend is nice looking.

Leave the old lady. She's about to die anyway. Pick up the chick and stay indebted to your buddy.
