It looks like Network Rail could be coming out on strike. On the BBC news report it mentioned that this coming Bank Holiday might be the possible date for strike action. This happens to coincide with Mules scheduled show in London. For those of us coming into London by train may well have to try and find alternate travel arrangements. Driving into the Capital for me is out of the question.

I sincerely hope that the b@stard$ don't go on strike ... I have already booked and paid for a return train ticket ... not to mention a non-cancellable hotel in Shepherd's Bush that doesn't have parking facilities ... so travelling by car really isn't an option ...

If the crap does hit the fan with the trains it looks like it might have to be National Express coaches. Only problem is the fact that it takes 6 hours without any traffic hold -ups, and it being a Bank Holiday looks highly likely. Plus I will lose my 80 quid train fare.

Surely if the trains go on strike you must get your money back?

So ... the good news is my train from Kings Lynn @ 11am getting into London @ 12:30 is running ... so I can get to London for the Mule concert and stay overnight at my pre-booked and pre-paid hotel ...

But ... the bad news is that I cannot get back home the following day !!!

Just checked the BBC website and according to them it is a 24 hour strike from 5pm on Mon 25th May ...

I sincerely hope that is the case because then I could spend all day Tuesday in London then get a train home in the evening ...

At least I can get there now. Getting home the next day is a problem. I will have to look into booking a National Express coach to get home. Don't think Virgin will refund my return fare of 40 quid though.

Hi Colin, I could wait until after 5 the following day, but Virgin trains want to rape me to the tune of 154.00. I have bought a ticket on National Express for 30 quid and I have paid an extra fiver to cancel and get my money back should the rail dispute be resolved before next Monday. The only problem with the coach is it will take 11 hours to get home compared to the 2 hours by train.

Wow ... big hike in cost or big hike in travel time ...

The train ticket that I bought was an off-peak open return ... I have to travel down on the Monday 25th ... but can return on any off-peak train within a month of that date ... so as long as they do go back at 5pm on the Tuesday then I should be ok as there are trains every half an hour back up to Norfolk ...

But of course it will be better still for all of us if they can come to an agreement and call of the strike ...

Don't know if it's already been mentioned but Slidejules (member here) and his band Northsyde are on the bill for a show at the Half Moon in Putney on the Monday of the Mule gig in aid of the Nepal earthquake disaster relief fund...
Big Mule and ABB fans, Jules and his wife Lorna have given up their tickets for the SBE show to play to raise money for this cause. 10 a ticket in advance or a bit more on the door.
If you can't make Mule maybe pop down and give them some support... if you are going to Mule and feel generous maybe donate the price of a ticket (or more) to DEC.org.uk or similar organisations...
Public service Announcement over!

What the effing eff?!!!

You wait over six years for the UK release of the 40th Anniversary Beacon DVD and it turns out to be the effing US version - "Playback prohibited by region code"!!!

Sold by Amazon as NTSC, which I now see is the North American system, but also described as "All Regions".

If this DVD is never going to be released in a format viewable outside of the US, the ABB marketing team should be ashamed.

Rant over.

For now....

I'm coming in on Megabus, for the princely sum of 1.50, scheduled to arrive at Victoria Bus Station at 3:45pm. When I booked the last train (11:30 pm from Paddington), I was told it was bus replacement all the way from Reading to Chippenham, so an extra hour's journey, but the current timetable info is now saying train all the way - here's hoping!

Are we meeting in O'Neill's?

I noticed that ONEILLS Irish Pub is no longer on the corner next to the Empire, it has been replaced by the Sindercome Social. Are we still gonna meet up in there on the afternoon, or choose somewhere else.

Hi guys ... I have a request regarding meeting up before the Mule gig ...

As you all know I am from Norwich, and being an NCFC season ticket holder I could have had a ticket for the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley between Norwich & Middlesbrough on Monday afternoon ... however ... had I gone to the game I would only just have made it to the Mule gig and would not have had a chance to catch up with y'all ...

So ... after much soul searching ... I decided not to go to the match but to come into London early so I could meet up with you guys ... it has been a couple of years since the last time after all ... but obviously I still want to see the match ... therefore, instead of the Sindercombe (which was O'Neills) could we please meet in the sports bar which is next to, but the other side of, the Empire ... it was a WALKABOUT ... don't know if it still is ...

I am arriving at Kings Cross by train at lunchtime and will make my way to the Bush and check into my hotel (the Ibis) ... I then intend to go to the WALKABOUT at around 2-30 to watch the Norwich v Boro game ... hope to see you all there ...

That's very friendly of you, Colin.... but I'd rather go to the Sindercombe Social, so see ya!

Seriously, it will be good to catch up with everyone. The Walkabout is a bit rowdy and noisy as I remember. Maybe we can find a quiet corner.

The train strike means I'll have to drive to the tube station so the long day's drinking I had planned may be out of the window!

I agree that the Walkabout is a bit noisy ... I am quite happy to go to another, quieter bar in the area as long as they have SKY TV and are showing the game ... any "locals" have any suggestions?

Not being a footy fan myself I don't really mind were we meet up. As long as Colin gets to see the match I will meet at any boozer showing the game.

Shepherd & Flock on Goldhawk Road seems to be a quiet local which has Sky Sports on large screen.

Train Strike is off and I don't care where we meet, but won't get there till after 5 probably, so I'll catch the penalty shoot-out, Colin!
