Thought I'd better let you know that the Snakeoil Rattlers gig on 25th at the Powers Bar has been cancelled. To make up for it we're playing tomorrow (Tuesday) at the 12 Bar if anyone's around. On stage at 8:30pm.

Only two weeks until Northsyde (w/ Jules Fothergill's excellent guitar playing) headline at Cargo in London - 27th April.

Is anyone going to the Muscle Shoals/ Gregg Allman extravaganza thinking of going on to this?

Don't think we would make it ... Film is from 6 'til 8 then GA concert from 9 'til 10 so it would be getting on for 11pm before we could get to the venue ... plus there is a £15 venue entry surcharge fee if you turn up to Cargo after 9pm ...

Look forward to seeing you again at the O2 however ... we plan to get there about 4:00 to 4:30 so we can grab a bite and a brew beforehand ...

Hi Colin.

I didn't appreciate that the film was so long. I was thinking the whole shebang would be through by about 8!

I'll aim to be there about 4. Any idea where you will be based? I've got your number anyway.

Look forward to seeing you, Mel and Martyn!

No pre-conceived plan as to where to graze at the O2 Gordon ... I'll give you a call when we arrive and take it from there ...

Mott The Hoople will tour the UK in November, playing five shows.

Ian Hunter, Verden Allen, Mick Ralphs and Overend Watts will be joined by Martin Chambers of The Pretenders in place of Dale ‘Buffin’ Griffin, who’s too ill to appear.

It’s the band’s first shows since a set of reunion appearances in London in 2009. It was the first time the original lineup had gathered for 35 years, and as a result, two planned appearances at the Hammersmith Apollo were extended to five, plus a warm-up show in Wales and a charity concert in Scotland.

The following year the band were the subject of a documentary movie, The Ballad Of Mott The Hoople.

Frontman Hunter released his 20th solo album, When I’m President, last September.

Tickets go on sale on Friday.
Mott The Hoople UK tour

Nov 11: Birmingham Symphony Hall
Nov 13: Glasgow Clyde Auditorium
Nov 16: Newcastle City Hall
Nov 17: Manchester O2 Apollo
Nov 18: London O2

I'll be there too! Still looking to offload your Gregg book Gordon?

Just a heads up. Pink is playing on Saturday so the O2 will be pretty packed so you may want to book your parking space if you're driving.

Yes, I'll bring it with me, Barry.

Would you like it signed or unsigned?!

I saw Robben Ford at the Mean Fiddler back in '06, Al.

I wasn't that impressed, to be honest. Probably better as a sideman, I thought.

Bollocks......midweek London gigs aren't very practical for me now. Need to give this one some thought!

Hope the new job is going well ...

Grand day out at the O2 to watch "Freddy" Camalier's excellent film about Muscle Shoals and to catch a glimpse of Gregg singing five songs afterwards.

The film told me so much I never knew about the goings on in Muscle Shoals beween Rick Hall, Jerry Wexler and The Swampers. The talking heads' anecdotes were totally interesting and cast new light on things (apart from the story about Duane's injured elbow, the Taj Mahal album and Coricidin bottle - still sounds a bit contrived to me!).

The soundtrack was great, helped by a mighty PA system.

The gig afterwards was fine: John Paul White of The Civil Wars opened with a mixed bag of songs from the film, his own songs and a Whippin' Post. I thought he was rather good.

Gregg was fine - he ran through Midnight Rider, Dark End of the Street, These Days, Can't Be Satisfied and Melissa. Bizarrely, he seemed to be dressed as a Park Ranger!

He said he is "doing his level best" to get the ABB over to Europe, but has also said that he has stacks of new songs written and that he believes in the Tooth Fairy...

Great to see so many of the UK Peach Corps - it's been a while!

PS The concourse of the O2 arena reminded me of the street scenes from Total Recall - all it lacked it was the three-titted hooker! Quite bizarre.

Ha ha ... I know what you mean Gordon ... that place is like a different planet ... but the "Indogo2" venue is still a great place for a gig ... very intimate and an excellent sound system ...

As you said ... great to meet up with some of the uk peach-heads ... it has been a while ... see you at the Mule in July!

The Indigo2 is a great venue and much underused by decent bands.

Perhaps it is pricey to rent but you look at the schedule and it's full of mid-level Dance music acts and "sickly sweet" soul singers (yes, even The Stylistics!).

I really enjoyed the Muscle Shoals film, and would happily have taken a packed lunch to view another two hours worth.
Enjoyed the gig, even though it was far too short, as we knew it would be. JPW was hardly accomplished on the guitar, but possessed a decent voice, and the highlight for me was his version of Whipping Post. Gregg looked a little awkward at times, but sounded ok (for Gregg). To me it looked like he'd come straight from his day job at Asda, decked out in a quite awful shirt. Disappointed they didn't give us even a one song encore, but never mind.
Good chatting with you Shavian before the gig, and a brief chat with a few others off this board. As for the ABB playing the UK, i think there's more chance of Lester Piggott riding Shergar to Grand National victory next year!
Oh and Gordon, Bob Seger's 'Main Street' is ok but nothing more, sounded better in the film.

Cheers, Alan, just had a stoatin' weekend up for the celebrations!

Really going to be struggling to make this . Although the job's great and I'm loving it, the dosh ain't that good and Karen's not working. Got most of my leave for the year booked out already and with becoming a grandad in June, and April's house behind schedule, need to keep some for emergencies.

So if anything, it'll be a mad dash after work to Osterly and subway in from there and back same evening, so not even a beer!
