Hey Mark, thanks for the 100 club recording..very nice!
With regards to the new drummer, Matt said he felt Kevin's style gave him and Jonny more room to jam...which sounds good to me!.

I managed to get Beacon tickets for all three nights I wanted ...

Thu 17th - Lower Balc - Row C - Seats 103 & 104

Fri 18th - Lower Balc - Row B - Seats 17 & 19

Sat 19th - Lower Balc - Row C - Seats 1 & 3

Couldn't get any in the Loge (which is my favourite) but guess going for pairs of tickets (my son is coming with me) rather than solo tickets as per previous years makes a difference. Anyway, near the front and centre of the lower balc is better than the rear orch seats I was otherwise being offered so I am reasonably happy ... bottom line is I am in the house and NYC bound ...

Did he say how the US tour went?

Hey Shavian, yes, he was very upbeat about the tour, more plans for more of the same next year, and he said "I think we're going to be there a lot..."

My only complaint about the gig was it was kinda short, 2 sets of 40-45 mins...

You all missed out on a great gig by Fistful of Mercy tonight at Koko, London. Joseph Arthur, Dhani Harrison and Ben Harper treated us all to great songs with CSN-esque harmonies. They played all of their new album, one song from each of their own catalogues and covers of Dylan, PJ Harvey and Velvet Underground. Ended a wonderful evening by singing With Whom You Belong totally unplugged from the edge of the stage.

Sounded like a great show Jim. I was supposed to be kayaking that weekend so didn't get tickets. The bummer is, that the trip got cancelled and I forgot the gig was on. Next time I'll see them for sure.

any other fans of Charlotte Street Blues Wednesday Jam night will be glad to know since the demise of CSB ,a new venue for the jam has been found.
From Wednesday 12th January, every Wednesday from 9pm-12pm, the weekly blues jam is picking up at the Alley Cat bar, Denmark St. Formerly Peter Parkers, it is under the Fender shop in the building that used to be Regent Sound Studios. It will be free to musicians, and £2 to other people. It's a great room, and expect to see many of the Charlotte St regulars. Start spreading the word

Let me point you in the direction of a Blues Guitar Heroes special from Guitarist magazine.

Interviews and features on loads of players from Robert Johnson to Aynsley Lister, Ten classic guitars, Top 40 Blues gutarists (Duane 24, Derek 10!), a history of slide guitar and loads of great photographs. Around 250 pages.

£9.99 from WHS and other good newsagents (and some dodgy ones!).

The Black Crowes have just announced UK dates too.

Mon 07/11/11 Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester Academy
Tue 07/12/11 London, United Kingdom O2 Shepherds Bush Empire
Wed 07/13/11 London, United Kingdom O2 Shepherds Bush Empire

I'm told the Shepherds Bush tickets go on sale 28th Jan.

Speaking of 28th Jan my little combo The Snakeoil Rattlers are playing The Water Rats in Kings Cross if anyone is bored that day. We're louder now with a drummer, electric guitar and trying out for the first time some lap steel in for the dobro. Let me know if you're coming down and I'll put you on the cheap list. We're second on at 7.45pm and there's some other bands playing too you might fancy.

Both Marty and his right hand man gunslinger Kenny Vaughan can play the sh&t out of the guitar. This would be a good one to see;

MARTY STUART RIDES GHOST TRAIN TO THE UK

Quintessential Traditional Country Album Tops
Critics’ End Of Year Lists

Nashville, TN. –Jan 20, 2011- GRAMMY nominee Marty Stuart will kick off his UK Tour in Glasgow, Scotland on Jan. 28. The tour comes on the heels of praise from UK press for his album GHOST TRAIN (THE STUDIO B SESSIONS), with the BBC noting that Stuart has “a complete understanding of what makes good country music sound right, and just enough rebelliousness to keep it fresh,” while the UK Independent calls GHOST TRAIN “the best country album of this year.”

UK TOUR DATES:
1/28 Glasgow, Scotland
1/29 Gateshead, England
1/30 Nottingham, England
1/31 Milton Keynes, England
2/1 London, England
2/2 Dublin, Ireland

The album, including two GRAMMY nominated tracks for “Best Country Collaboration With Vocals” for “I Run To You,” and “Best Country Instrumental” for “Hummingbyrd,” also landed on several year-end lists including NPR’s “Ken Tucker’s Top 10 of 2010,” Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Philadelphia Inquirer, CMT.com, No Depression, Toronto Star and The 9513.

From Glasgow, Scotland to Glasgow, Kentucky, Stuart has added a slew of dates across the US following his UK stint. For tour dates and ticket information, visit www.martystuart.net.

Hi Derek! Yeah I agree about Marty. Off to Glasgow on Monday for a week of Celtic Connections Fest. Should meet up with Jerry Douglas and the Transatlantic Sessions guys, also, Tim O'Brien/Bryan Sutton/Stuart Duncan Band, Richard Thompson, The Wilders and of course the awesome Marty Stuart & Fabulous Superlatives. As you say, Kenny Vaughan is the real deal on the guitar.
Should be a cool 5 days.
Best
Nick
