Me too. I don't finish work until 6pm so won't be there before 7pm. I heard a rumour that if Derek turns up he's going to utter his first onstage words which will be..... "Where's JIm?"

For all you folks that are coming to The Snakeoil Rattlers show on Saturday at the Betsey, I've just got off the phone from the promoter and have been told that we'll probably be on-stage at 9pm. Also note that they don't serve food on a Saturday although he did mention there might be some pasties for sale. I've also warned Kev the Rattlers dobro player that there might be some slide fans drawling over some of his licks. It's known that the more response he gets the flasher he tends to play.

Here's the flyer for the show.

Just got home from the gig... what fun. Killer band (especially the rhythm section)...

No Derek there - at home looking after the kids! - although Dave Yoke on guitar... I mean, he plays a red SG, with his fingers for the most part, into a Super Reverb... he played a lot of "Derek-like" licks. He's a very tidy guitar player for sure, but if DT's not going to be there my preference would be to hear someone completely different! Hope that doesn't sound harsh - it's just a feeling I got... but a nice little sit in by Matt Schofield on Voodoo, which was cool.

And man, what a voice she has! Brilliant :-)

From the advertising, I expected Matt Schofield to be supporting.

Even based on his own website's revelation that he would be "sitting in", for him to play one song only was a severe disappointment.

No complaints about Susan & Co. They can come back any time.

Snake Oil Rattlers

Re Barry's message above, I was looking forward to some grub at the Betsey on Saturday! Suggest we still meet at 6ish and I'll have a scout around before I get there for somewhere to eat, even if it's just a pizzajoint. We could then have a pint, go for a quick bite and then be back for Barry's support act who I presume will be on at 8. Sounds as if last nights gig was a good'un.

All I can say about last nights Susan Tedeschi gig is ... WOW ... above and beyond ALL my expectations ...

I donít have any Susan T shows in my collection ... just Soul Stew shows by Susan & Derek (which I think are superb) ... my only other experience of Susan live is from her sit-ins with the ABB ... and to be brutally honest I am getting a bit bored of those because it always the same two or three numbers she does (Donít Think Twice / The Weight etc) ... and based on those I feared her live show might be a little bit too much country and not enough blues for my personal taste ... but boy was I wrong ...

Last nights gig certainly opened my eyes to the real world of Susan Tedeschi ... it was very much the blues all the way ... and the band she has with her are extremely tight and comprise some very talented musicians ... I always loved Ron Hollowayís contributions when he sat in with the ABB & Mule so I knew what to expect there and he didnít disappoint ... but I didnít expect the rest of the band to be so good too ... and then lay on top of that Susanís wonderfully powerful vocals and highly competent licks on the guitar and you end up with a cultured performance enjoyed by all ...

There were only two disappointments ... the first being that Derek wasnít there ... when asked where he was Susan said he was at home looking after the kids while she worked for a change ... and the second was that Matt Schofield (a very talented British guitarist) only got to sit in on one tune ... it would have been good to have heard a bit more from him ... but those two gripes pale into insignificance in respect that I so much enjoyed the show ...

I picked up Susan's most recent CD after the show (Back To The River) which she graciously autographed for me ... and have enjoyed listening to that on the way in to work this morning ... don't know why it took me so long to audition one of her albums ... but I have a feeling this CD will stay in the rotation for some time ...

Come back to London soon Susan ... and maybe next time bring your husband as an opening act ...

I prefer the previous one, Hope & Desire, but Back to the River is probably closer to the live show we saw.

Did you join the rush of blokes to the stage when she said she was having touble with her G-string?!!!!!

Barry and I completely cracked up when she said that ...

What a great night! No Derek but that didn't matter & may have overshadowed Susan & the guys if he had appeared. Expected more than the one flleeting appearance from Matt Schofield as well but nevermind . Don't know if anybody else noticed but I'm sure I saw Ron Holloway turn to look at Matt in full flow & raise his eyebrows as if to say 'Man, who is this guy, he's good!'.

Will sort the recording over the weekend, haven't had time to check if it's ok yet.

By the way ... we are getting pretty poor at organising a pi$$ up in a brewery ... last nights venue was closed ... and saturday nights venue is not doing food ...

Barry said there are several places to eat further up the road beyond the Betsey ... I will be aiming to be in the viscinity at about 6pm Jim ... I have your number so will contact then ... Martyn may be coming up too ...

All you guys got your CDs signed, but I didn't bother with that. I got myself a kiss! Won't be washing my face for a while.

After asking I'm sorry to inform you guys she won't be coming on Saturday as she's not in town. As Martyn informed me earlier on in the night -- I'm shameless.

There's a terribly famous gastropub up Farringdon Road, if it's still open -The Eagle.
Several pubs nearer Farringdon Station, Three Compasses being one, I reckon they do food, probably.
Don't think I'll make it on Sat night tho', so someone else will have to shriek like a girl.

Good gig last night - agree on the Matt question - would have loved to see him get a couple more songs in - Any day had my vote

any of you remember speaking to a guy in a mule t-shirt outside bush hall? One of the amber ones, from 2005?

If so...hello, wish I'd known you at the time!

Not harsh .... i could be a lot harsher. he spoilt it for me ... the derek imitating was ... embarasing .

Susan's and Ron's solo playing was sweet though

Ok what happened to the UK peach-corp last night? At least Colin apologised for choosing Reading v Chelsea instead of the Rattlers' gig beforehand. Anyway y'all (apart from Keith (geordielad) and me) missed a good wee gig by the Snake Oil Rattlers. Good pub as well by the way if you are ever in the Farringdon area of London. Decor not the best, but good beer and a nice gantry of malts.

B*gger - that's two gig's of theirs I've blown out - is the Betsey a regular-ish gig? Is there a next date planned?
I used to drink in there back in the 80's when it was full of Guardian printers, and it was always a nice boozer...

Would like to have come along... family commitments and a severe lack of funds meant there was no way I was going out ! Like H2He says "Is this a regular venue" . Or anywhere else in London we'll try and get along and give you guys a bit of support!
