"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money."

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?"

"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"

"So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

I love these verses out of Matthew, and return to them often. The Israelites in the desert with Moses only got enough manna from heaven to sustain them for one day at a time. Just let the worries of today be enough for today. Amen.

yeah...no matter what the issue or situation, good, bad or indifferent, the answer is always there. It really is amazing...

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.
(here is one of my favorite passages and something I've fully learned only recently)
"Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces."

He is talking of course about spiritual pearls of wisdom and how they should not be wasted on those who have no regard for them at all or who twist and distort them to their own satisfaction and ultimately their own destruction...

"Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

Matthew 7: 7-8

We have to go beyond the words on the pages. The fruit we bear, in all that we do, is the manifestation of our relationship with Christ.

"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets."

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."

Matthew 7: 13-14

Dear Jesus,
How true your words are! However, you forgot to mention that very same road has pot holes, is slippery and quite long. Perhaps we can discuss this minor detail upon my arrival into your glorious kingdom. Until then, I remain your humble servant.

Mark

folks...it was learned a few days ago that my son's mother (we never married though have remained friends for 30 some odd years...) has a mass on her lung. I sincerely ask that you keep this God loving woman in your prayers.

Thanks so much.

thanks Doug...and anyone else.

"...They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit."

Brothers and Sisters, if you all don't mind, we're going to leave Matthew 'til next Monday and instead focus in on the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, celebrating Easter Week.

Dying a miserable, painful and undignified death on the cross, Jesus made seven statements, they are known as "The Seven Words".

They are:

"Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do."
Luke 23:34
"Truly I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."
Luke 23:43
Jesus said to His mother, "Woman, this is your son" then to the disciple, (John) "This is your mother."
John 19:26-27
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Mark 15-34
"I thirst"
John 19-28
When Jesus had recieved the wine He said, "It is finished" and He bowed His head and handed over the Spirit.
John 19-30
Jesus called out with a loud voice, "Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."
Luke 23-46

Thank you, Jesus. For me, you suffered. For me, you have risen.

Jesus appears to the disciples...

Then He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high."

Luke 24:45-49

Happy Easter, my brothers and sisters. Take great joy and comfort that our Savior has overcome the grave, has risen to be seated at the right hand of our Father, where all authority has been given to Him and whoever believes in Him will never die.

Amen. Thank you, Jesus.

back to Matthew and the Word of our Savior...

"Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit, you will recognize them.
Not everyone who says to me,'Lord,Lord', will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven".

Matthew 7:19-21

Here's one I really needed to hear today:

Why do you complain, Jacob?
Why do you say, Israel,
“My way is hidden from the LORD;
my cause is disregarded by my God”?
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

Isaiah 40:27-31

"Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord', did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers."

Matthew 7:22-23

"God is not concerned with whether or not we've practiced religion. He wants us to love His Son."
