I loved it. I can't imagine why so many people got upset about the book. Lots of good stuff in there.

yeah, me too...

ya think it was the black female thing and the shattering of preconceived notions...?

That's what I heard was coming from the pulpit of some of the Baptsit churches out here. I thought it was pretty cool.

I have to say, that book completely got me back on track a few months ago. I was really floundering and it all made perfect sense.

that's because you are in a relationship with him...

Man, I'll tell ya, that book had a profound effect on me...

Yes, me too. really made me look at some things in a completely different light.

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men-robbers, evildoers, adulterers-or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'
But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'
I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Luke 18:10-14

You paint the night , you count the stars and call them by name
the skies proclaim , God you reign
your glory shines , you teach the sun when to bring a new day
creation sings , God you reign

You part the seas , you move the mountains with the words that you say , my song remains ,
God you reign
you hold my life , you know my heart and you call me by name
I live to say , God you reign

"I sought the Lord, and he answered me;
he delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant;
their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and the Lord heard him;
he saved him out of all of his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him,
and he delivers them."

It's hard to see so many people struggling. I know I keep hearing things are getting better, but in my community I haven't seen it yet. Lots of tough times, and it is frustrating to not have the financial resources myself to help so many people out. But We all do have time, and that can sometimes be the biggest gift we have to give of all. A smile, a helping hand, a kind word, a wave to a neighbor. A little bit of that human touch.

"Then the righteous will answer him, "Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you s0mething to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?

The king will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."

Matt. 25:37-40

Hmmmm...it seems to me that every answer I've ever needed is in God's Word. No matter what the situation is, good bad or indifferent, perplexing or simple, requiring deep thought and understanding or basic and elementary, a time of great need or just to charge the batteries, it's all there.
Yup, there are some tough times goin' on and lotsa people hittin' it hard. Flippin' through Psalms today, my favorite book (David was quite the complex dude and someone I can relate to) and came across Psalm 34 and verse 10 "even the young lions may grow weak and hungry but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing".

"Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand,
Or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?
Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket,
Or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?
Who has understood the mind of the Lord,
Or instructed him as his counselor?
Whom did the Lord consult to enlighten him,
And who taught him the right way?
Who was it that taught him knowledge,
Or showed him the path of understanding?"

Isaiah 40:12-14

There's a kid I work with that is too sick to go to school, so I teach him at his home a couple of times a week. He is in the 6th grade and had his kidneys removed last year. He has heart disease and has to go to dialysis three times a week. Good kid. Tough kid. His mom called me this evening and told me he was really sick and they were taking him to the hospital. He is in the same grade as my daughter, and it really drives home how fragile and special this life is and how we should never take any of it, especially our relationships, for granted. His name is Joseph. If any of you who visit this thread have some healing prayers handy, I'd appreciate you sending some up for this boy. Thanks.

God of compassion, source of life and health,
give strength and new health to your servant Joseph,
and give your power of healing to those who minister to his needs.
May the touch of Jesus Christ who healed the sick
and is the physician of our souls, touch these who need him

One of the hardest things for me to do in my walk with God is accept that when I remain angry or resentful towards another person, place, or thing it means that I am doing something wrong, that I am somehow not right with God. I still have this clinging idea that if I do everything that God tells me to do, the way he tells me to do it, that I will somehow be taken advantage of and come out on the short end of things. God promises that if I do things his way I will be blessed, but I still have a hard time letting go of the idea that I have to stand for myself and instead let God stand for me, in his time and in his way.

"You have heard that it was siad,'Love your neighbor, and hate your enemy.' But I tell, you: Love your enemy, and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, even as your heavenly Father is perfect."

Matt. 5:43-48
