One thing that happened over the past year is beginning to see the possibility of being OK in whatever situation I find myself in. It seemed to start in little spots, but has grown steadily over this time, that feeling that everything is still OK, because it isn't what is going on around me that is so important, but where I am on the inside, spritually speaking, that really matters, and how that impacts my relationships with others, where my spiritual condition manifests itself in time and space.

I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and i know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being contentin any and every situation, whther well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

That is where I want to be.

I was sure by now
That You would have reached down
And wiped our tears away
Stepped in and saved the day
But once again, I say Amen, and its still raining

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear Your whisper through the rain
Im with you
And as You mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

Ill praise You in this storm
And I will life my hands
For You are who You are
No matter where I am
Every tear Ive cried
You hold in Your hand
You never left my side
And though my heart is torn
I will praise You in this storm

I remember when
I stumbled in the wind
You heard my cry
You raised me up again
My strength is almost gone
How can I carry on
If I cant find You

As the thunder rolls
I barely hear You whisper through the rain
Im with you
And as Your mercy falls
I raise my hands and praise the God who gives
And takes away

I lift my eyes unto the hills
Where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord
The Maker of Heaven and Earth...............

I don't know about anybody else, but worrying about stuff is such a negative force in my life, but seems almost impossible for me to avoid on a consistent basis, at least when things are difficult. When the sun is shining, the birds are singing, and the wind is at my back it's pretty easy to be calm and peaceful. But when it's dark and stormy, the winds are howling right into me, and the buzzards are circling, that's a different story. It's too easy for me to forget at those times that I am never alone.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or stow away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or"What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Doug,
I cannot tell you how many times I have turned to that Scripture passage.....by far my favorite in the whole Bible. I, too, tend to be a "worrywart"....as we used to say. This passage always puts things in perspective for me and helps me understand that the only person being affected by my worrying is ME!!! God is with me so that I don't have to do all that worrying.....I just need reminding (on a frequent basis!).
Thanks for posting this.....I needed it today very much!

'Twas in another lifetime, one of toil and blood
Where blackness was a virtue and the road was full of mud
I came in from the wilderness, a creature void of form
"Come in", she said, "I'll give 'ya
Shelter from the storm."

Anybody notice something different about this place over the last week or so, or is it just me? Feels more like it used to .

hi Libby ...
lyrics and music Casting Crowns

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
The voice of truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
The voice of truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
From on top of them lookin' down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

I will choose to listen and believe the voice of truth.........

I came here a couple of days ago, my world had just been rocked, out of the blue, without warning. I wasn't sure of what I would find here, but those postivie, caring vibes, the words of encouragement I read that were written for others but helped me and the warm welcomes from everybody stopped my tears for a while and gave me enough hope that I finally slept last night for the first time in two days. I had been told that this was a great bunch of people, and I believe it now.

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said, "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
"And whoever welcomes a little child in my name welcomes me. But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.....See to it that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."
"What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than the niney-nine that did not wander off. In the same way your father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost."

Rest for the Weary

At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.
"All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Matthew 11: 25 - 30

Those last verses have given me solace more times than I can remember. You might also recognize the words from Handel's "Messiah".

Doug, he brings you trials and misery so that you will look to him for solace and answers and he will provide the sustenance. Allah wants a closer relationship with everybody but nobody give him any thought when things are going well because they are too busy enjoying themselves, it is only in despair they call out and say, help me; so if this is the only way he can get your attention, he will bring you misery just so you will call out to him. When you feel betrayed it is because you depend on others to help you, they may or may not, he always provides a way out. You may think you know where YOU want to be and what YOU want to be doing in your life, but he may have other plans for you. Accept it when he moves you out of a place, job, relationship he will bring you to something else which eventually will move you along on the path you need to be on. If the house is giving you lots of problems, have it appraised, perhaps moving and relocating will give you a better quality of life. He does not want things to be difficult for anyone, it is our own stubbornness and clinging to material things that keeps us stuck. If you lost everything you had today, how would you feel? Anygry, sad and with loss, yet what you need most is your personal relationship with him and your faith because things can be replaced, you can move to someplace else and take your wife with you. Ghandi had all he needed in life in a shoebox. Being is more important than having. Make plans, try, but be flexible. Being successful is nothing, being faithful is what your goal should be. Islam helps me soooooo much. In the end you go before God with just yourself, no house, no luxury car, just you, that is what you will take to heaven or hell, so that is what you need to focus on, the rest is just window dressing. You don't need all that much to be happy. Get some basic things that give you some measure of comfort but be satisfied with that. Cut thru all the crap. Suze Orman (a motivational speaker who tries to help woman manage their financial life) realized why man ywomen are in debt and not making a living, there are psychological things tied into it, but one quote she had is "you are a warrior, you do not leave the battlefield". That can apply to anything, you just keep going. Look at your enemies what is stopping you from being happy, develop a plan and try. If you fail, then you just make new decisions and keep on rollin'. I don't want to use Dickey as an example but he is a good one, he keeps going and he tries which is all we are asked to do.

You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in ove. The entire law is summed up in a single command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." If you keep on biting and devouring one another, watch out or you will be destroyed by one another.
So I say, live by the spirit...... the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

walked into church this morning (yeah, I've been back around 6 weeks now. ) and I was thinking, "Man, I'm a mess. What am I doing here?" The sermon was based on a pamphlet called, "Godliness Through Discipline" and it was JUST what I needed to hear and at JUST the right time. I strongly recommend reading this if you're looking to get back on track. If you can't find one, (it's by Jay E. Adams), pm me, I'll send you mine and maybe we can float it around.

Awesome. God's timing, often in conflict with our hurried state, is perfect.
