"Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will gaurd your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Philippians 4:4-7

Very, very often I have a hard time doing the above and have to ask for God's help. I just can't seem to get there on my own.

"So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets,as the hypocrites do in the synagogues on on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

"Sir", the woman said, "you have nothing to draw with and the well is very deep. Where can you get this living water? are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us this well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and his heards?"
Jesus answered, "Everyone who drinks from this well will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life."

John 4:11-14

It seems like lately it has been becoming more and more clear to me that we have a duty to live lives of joy and freedom, to experience the fullness of the joy and peace God has created us to experience in this gift of life he has given us. A duty to express that overflowing fullness in everything we do, no matter what others are doing or what is going on around us. To always live that life of hope and joy in all situations, in all weather, in everything we do. It's not just a bessing, or a priviledge, or a gift. It's a responsibility. One we can only fulfill by surrendering everything to God and trusting him completely. I'm beginning to see the possibility of actually being "all in."

Hello Doug, I came across your thread tonight. I hadn't seen it before. I started at the beginning. What your thought was when you began. My daughter was killed almost 7 years ago, next Feb. 20th. My world changed in an instant.I had a life that was very different before that day.I took tomorrow for granted.Even though the Bible says that is wrong to do. I took people for granted as well, I guess.I thought I would be able to make up the times that I missed with my kids, working two jobs, missing fun things with them. Then my daughter had her life taken from her and us.I went into a deep depression.Couldn't get out of bed to meet the day. Didn't come out of the house much.It took me years before I was functioning.Through counseling, specifically for grief, prayer, family, friends, I 've been able to claw out of the pit that I was in.Faith is such an important gift.It unfortunately is looked down upon in our society.I don't know where I would be without my faith in God.He has put up with alot of **** from me, yet, I know that I am loved. As someone said earlier",you did good " starting this thread.I felt compelled to share some of my story. When she died, I really wasn't living a very Christian life. I thought I was doing OK, but, really I was kidding myself. If I had been living a Christian life,my fall into depression would not have been so deep and hard to come back from. But God did grant me the Grace to recover.I have to focus, and work at it everyday. But, I know with His grace all things are possible. Thank you for the opportunity to share my story with you ! God Bless & Take care,Rick

Hey Rick-
Thank you so much for sharing your story here. Sometimes my little daily aggravations seem much bigger than they really are. I could not imagine losing my daughter and then finding the courage to go on without God. When it comes down to it, after all the intellectual excercises and debate, all the archeological discoveries and carbon dating, all the logic and conjecture, nothing can change the fact that God entered into my life and changed me when I was most in need of change. Through tragedy and hard times he pulled me closer to him. He sustains me on a daily basis, gives me exactly what I need for each day, and blesses my life with a joy I never knew before. Here's to the promise that we will all dance together at the big dance when you are reunited.

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may be where I am."

John 14:1-3

This day is still a suprisingly tough day for me to remember. I was talking to my students about it a little bit yesterday and got chocked up. The older ones remember it a little, 6th grade and below hardly at all. My heart and prayers go out to all those who suffered personal loss on that day. Sometimes its very hard to not want to make somebody pay for our plain.

At the sixth hour darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour. and at the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

Mark 6:33-34

"While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, he has risen!"

That's what I heard was coming from the pulpit of some of the Baptsit churches out here. I thought it was pretty cool.
