This is one of my favorite albums ever and for years I have had it on vynil so I recently purchased it on CD - the "Columbia 20th Century Masterpiece" edition or some such title.

The mix is freakin' HORRIBLE!! The drums, piano and bass are turned down so low I can barely hear them a fact I noticed only after turning the volume up only to have Miles's trumpet (and subsequently the other brass) come crashing over my headphones at ear-splitting levels.

When was the last time you associated Miles Davis trumpet on Kind of Blue with the description "ear-splitting"?

Does anyone know where I can get an edition of this album on CD with the original mix?
Please help.

I had a few older miles cd's get scratched and when I rebought them I got the anniv. remastered issues with extra tracks and they all blow. When sometyhing is perfect just leave it alone. Money and glory hounds

Part of my reason for posting was to make sure I wasn't just going crazy so thanks for the verification.

Why would they do this?? Does anyone have a normal mix of Kind Of Blue on cd?

What an amazing album , one of the true GREATS . It would be nice if JVC would release it as an XRCD , great quality I have a few Coltrane's and a few of Miles's albums in this format and the sound is awesome .

I have this on SACD, and it sounds excellent. I also have Coltrane's A Love Supreme on SACD - also excellent.

Both the SACD and the Miles/Trane box set have excellent mixes of this album.

You can find the older pressing(s) of it on ebay, or probably also at any good used store.
