After Warren and Woody, and then Dickey, left the ABB, I didn't attend a single show between 1996 and August 2002.

So first time for me would be 8.21.2002....that Kahunaville show in Delaware.

The first tour he was with them when they ran through Kansas City. It was a Dickey and Derek show, I'm pretty sure Oteil was plonkin with the ABB.

My first ABB, Oteil show was June of 2002 at the Filmore here in Denver!

What I enjoyed most about Oteil that night and every since is that he formulated his bass parts upon the original. Doing so he pays tribute to both Barry and Lamar, the true Governor's of ABB bass.

While Allen (Woody) played amazingly well in songs like; Seven Turns, End of the Line, Nobody Knows etc. his bass lines in the ABB standards always bothered me. At times they weren't even close.

I believe (takng this one step further) Pedro (DB&GS Band) is another example of a truely phenominal player that has no intentions of learning the original bass parts. At times causing "train wrecks".......(listen to DB&GS DVD Back Where It All Begins, Live at the R&R Hall of Fame.....best example Ramblin Man.......followed by Jessica.

Rock on Oteil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my first, was also oteil's first, june 1997 great woods in mansfield, ma. i did not know this until i read it over on oteil's site just the other day, they were wishing him happy 10th anniversary with the bros. even though i've been a fan for 30+ years, i didn't get into the nuts and bolts of the band till '01. anyway back then i was still drinkingup a storm, i think i was sittin on the lawn up back, and probably wouldn't have even heard them introduce him. but i was there in body anyway. it's kinda cool to know i was at his 1st show, even though i don't really remember it. i don't miss a note at the shows these days and i always get the best tix i can .
