Muddy Waters for Eric Clapton, 1979

Eric was excellent, especially the second night (in a row) I saw them, despite touring in support of a pretty weak album, Backless.

But Muddy--hoo! We know Muddy's slide playing to be pretty rustic, you could say, and repetitive, but the second night, he cut loose with a solo that blew my mind about as much as anything Duane did. I've never heard anything close to it on any studio or live Muddy recordings. I recall trying to characterize it as Duane Allman meets O'Hare Airport (jets taking off)--it was that aggressive and overpowering. Yes: Muddy Waters! Still can't get over it.
