He's damn good. After Jerry said that he listened to alot of Zero back in the day ( who I wish would get back together ), Kimock had alot of unfair comparisons made to Captain Trips. I don't think he's ever lived down those comparisons, which is really a shame b/c the guy has mad skills...

Yes, he does. The guy is a gem of a player and can handle all styles equally well - make that brilliantly. He is also a tone-guru and is constantly tweaking his gear just searching for the sound...

Steve Kimock's playing is some of the most beautiful guitar work I have heard. I am especially fond of the group he put together last fall with Rodney Holmes, Robert Walter and Reed Mathis. They were excellent!

His work with Jerry Joseph recently was not as good, imo. Too much Jerry, not enough Steve...

Rodney is probably the best drummer I have ever seen and I've seen many including Billy Cobham and Carl Palmer. He makes even great drummers look primitive in nature. He has been with Steve now for about 6 years or so. They have incredible energy and chemistry together tha defies description.

Eddie, My Brother!! I saw an episode of Studio Jams with Chris Thile, Karl Denson, Rodney Holmes, Steve Kimock, and I forgot the Bass players name, not familiar with him, but it was absoultely amazon. To just see Rodney and Kimock jammin' in a studio was the cats ass for me. Tongue 'n' Groove never sounded so good

Yes I think you did Neil. That was about 4 or maybe even 5 years ago I would say. I got hooked almost immediately! I knew there was something really special about Kimock right away and I was right in my assumption. He continues to blow my mind time after time. His playing is always inventive and fresh and very rarely repeats favorite riffs like a lot of players do. He is always reinventing himself. Right now he is my 2nd favorite guitar player behind Mr. Derek Trucks....and that's saying something. I love interesting, off-the-cuff improvisation more than anything...and Derek and Steve are extremely gifted in that Department.

I freakin' love this picture...It is definitely worth a thousand words and captures what he does perfectly.

There are quite literally hundreds of Kimock recordings on the Archive so obviously there arer tons of great shows in there including the famous Charlie Miller "stage recordings" which are pristine quality - I would call them an A++ rating.

I will have to go through what I have to give you particular recomendations...take a look at the reviews right there on the Archive. Kimock fans are typically very honest in their opinions so I would start there.

Rodney Holmes is the kind of drummer, if you are a musician, especially an improv musician, you dream about playing with. The guy has huge ears, he hears it all and soaks it in. I haven't heard any other drummer, in this type of music, do it any better.

There are many great jazz drummers out there, but with Steve's style of music, or anything in the jamband genre, there is no one that comes close to Rodney, IMO.

BTW, I caught Derek with Zero in SF, I guess it was 2000 or 2001. That particular night, Derek completely stole the show.

I saw Kimock at BB Kings last June and he blew me away. I also saw him with his most recent band at Ridgefield Playhouse nto too long ago, but I wasn't really impressed as much as when he had Moose
