I'm not exactly experienced in this field, but it seems like a totally negative thing.

Lots of people have lost lots of money because of it. Some lost their lives due to it. And some even lost their minds.

Of course Clapton's version of JJ Cale's song comes to mind:
If you want to hang out, youíve got to take her out, cocaine
If you want to get down, get down on the ground, cocaine
She donít lie, she donít lie, she donít lie, cocaine
If you got bad news, you want to kick them blues, cocaine
When your day is done and you got to run, cocaine
She donít lie, she donít lie, she donít lie, cocaine
If your thing is gone and you want to ride on, cocaine
Donít forget this fact, you canít get it back, cocaine
She donít lie, she donít lie, she donít lie, cocaine

Thankfully, Derek ain't getting exposed to none of that with Clapton now.

Boy do I feel like a complete dumb-ass. I always thought that song was about him singing about his woman and saying:' She don't Like, She don't LIKE, She Don't Like.....Ocantak

At the risk of sounding stupid, who is this JJ person of which you speak? I know the Clapton himself has said that he is not a great songwriter. is this his primary muse?

Nah, you're not sounding stupid, you're just trying to find out who JJ Cale is. JJ Cale is a songwriter from Oklahoma who's been around for quite some time. Never had any real success on his own, (don't think he really tried all that hard) but has done quite well because of other artist covering his songs. Some of his more well know songs are:

Crazy Mama (which is the closest that JJ has come to having a hit on his own)
Magnolia
After Midnight
Cocaine
Call Me the Breeze

Now getting back to the subject at hand, all the white powders be they Coke, Crank, Heroin, whatever they're all bad. Glad I got away from all that sh*t, when I did, others I know weren't quite as fortunate.

I've had my cocaine days. Well, actually they were mostly nights. And early mornings. Being an attractive woman back in the day, I almost never had to buy any, that probably helped me kick it. I've done a lot of drugs in the past, and I had some good times with them. But, it was always in conjunction with alcohol. I've had more bad times, done more stupid things, have more regrets over my alcohol abuse than any other kind of drug, but that happens to be my weakness. I lost my first husband to crystal meth, and watched crack cocaine totally devastate a family very close to me, and watched an old childhood friend go down with it too. Now, I'm dealing with the effects of crack on the babies of the family that was destroyed. My friend has been clean about 10 years, but she still has a load of guilt and regret.

From what I've read, back in the 70s, and into the 80s, powder cocaine wasn't seen as harmful as it is today. I think crack has made people see cocaine as a whole differently. (For you young'uns out there, freebasing coke was the early version of crack). When I quit cocaine, about 8 years ago, I dreamed about it, could taste it in my sleep. I missed it for quite a while, and don't know if I could've turned it down in every circumstance, but I relish refusing it now. It was a strong monkey. But I like being stronger.

Maybe it's because I've been there, but I think when we talk about how evil drugs are, and imply that it's stupid to use them, we should remember WHY people use them. They make you feel good. And cocaine is one of, if not THE, feel good drugs of all time. It makes you feel on top of the world, witty, energetic, sexy, creative...lots of artists and respected thinkers used it. Freud used it. It used to be in Coca Cola, fer chrissakes!

Then there's the poverty ridden third world countries in South America whose economies in part depend on this spoiled rotten instant gratification-centered country's abuse of said demon powder, and of course, Afghanistan and its opium production...It's an issue way more complicated than just saying "no."

I have nothing but sadness and sympathy for anyone caught up in it.

"There but for the grace of god, go I..."

p.s. porkchopbob, you are not implying that anyone has improved on Dylan, are you?!

The first line is just the greatest and then you keep doing it over and over and over to get that same feeling, but it ain't gonna happen.

So, you try again the next day.

And the next

And the next..

Unless you have mass quantities of the quality version that certain persons we all love used to lay out on the table, forget it.

And, it's just like any other drug, including alcohol and tobacco, after you stop for any length of time you think that maybe you'll try it again - you have only good memories of the experience. That's when the trapdoor shuts.

Interesting, but for me, I can't say I ever enjoyed the high at all. But I would chase it just the same, wanting more more more. I had a bad run with coke in the 80's (gee, anybody else?). For one solid year, my buddies and i would head to Fordham Rd. in the Bronx, and I would wait, terrified, in the car while my buddy would go into a very dangerous apt. bldg. to get it. Of course we would be up all night, sleep all the next day, then do it again. What a waste. I eventually got away from it, and didn't touch it for easily 15 years. Then, I got to hanging out with the folks that worked at the restaurant I was working at about 2 years ago (rest. bus. is certainly a breeding ground for partying). I actually just messed with it a few times, and in very small quantities. Then, me and one of the guys decided to get an 8-ball for no apparent reason. When he came to work with it, he just handed it to me. He says, use it for the weekend, then I'll take the rest. Well, I did a bunch of it, and was sicker the next day than I have ever been in my life. I barely made it to the restaurant the next day to give it back to him, then go home and sleep for the next 14 hours. Turns out he went on a tear for that Sat. night and finished it. Next thing I know, I find out he is in the hospital after having a heart attack. This very likely may have been a bad batch of stuff - who knows. But, that was it for me - never again (and please don't tell me to say never). I was literally scared straight. And the guy is okay, but still out there using and doing ecstasy. Me, I am content with booze and some tasty buds. From now on, only that whch keeps me mellow is allowed.
Even the guys in the kitchen where I worked called it "blanco diablo"

That is bad, nasty **** . Stay away from it. Here's why:

It will make you feel better than you've ever felt in your life.

You will be able to accomplish anything, you be filled with unbounded energy, you will have supreme confidence in your physical and mental abilities, and everything will be right with the world - all for about 10 dollars or so. 10-15 bucks on a Friday or Saturday night, and you feel like a million dollars.

You enjoyed it so much, you can't wait until next weekend so you can do it again. So you do, and it's even better than it was the first time. A high that doesn't eff with your head, and makes you feel great, heck, why not? It's not that expensive, I'm only doing an 1/8th of a gram . . .

Then, after a few weeks, splitting a quarter gram with your friend isn't really giving you the same effect . . . so you say eff it, I've got a decent job, dropping 25 dollars during a night out isn't that big of a deal. So this time you do the whole quarter yourself.

Yeah, buddy! That's what I'm talking about! Damn, that **** is good! You drift along just fine for a while getting your little quarter bag once a week . . . on Friday. Then, on one particular Saturday night you say to yourself - you know what? "I'm gonna party this weekend!" So you call up your guy (you now have a "guy") and score another quarter. You do it all at once, party animal that you are. And you're having a great time, laughing, drinking, dancing, the ladies all love you, you're loving the drips and drains and the way your jaw feels all rubbery . . . and you know what? You've got the cash for another quarter . . . and you'll get another paycheck before most of your bills are due . . . you can afford it.

You wake up the next morning and your nose feels kind of stuffy . . . you grab some tissue and blow your nose - and stare at a huge wad of your own blood. This puts you in check - you've got to slow down, for a bit - so you go back to your one quarter a week for a little while . . . but you're missing it, and you want more.

I could go on with the narrative, but you get the point. It's so dangerous because it's so wonderful at first, but it escalates, and gets more and more expensive, and you become more and more of a slave to it.

Here's what you've got to look forward to:
giving up your hobbies
losing weight in an unhealthy way
going through your savings
not worrying about hygene
trying the rock or the needle 'cuz it more economical (takes less at first)
mixing in a little H, doing H instead
stealing from your job
stealing from friends
stealing from family
losing your job
losing your friends
losing your family

That's some bad, bad **** .

Two People who I work with were shown the door this weekend after one was caught buying from the other. The seller was a senior manager who has been with the company for 11 years. We all had our suspicions about the manager but were quite shocked that the female member of staff was taking it. So she lost £100.00 and her job. My heart bleeds. NOT.

My Doctor who is my brother in law (that in itself is weird enough for me) often asks me about my old habits and he always gets a little twinkle in his eye when i talk about my days behind that sh$t. Since he knows about the chemical makeup, he knows the feeling it puts on you. He always said if there was one drug he would try it would have been cocaine.

Sigmund Freud was an early cocaine enthusiast and wrote much of
his body of work while using the drug. He later reputiated his
enthusiam for cocaine.

He was also addicted to cigars and died of tobacco related oral cancer.

most stimutulants (including caffiene) are addictive and are generally
hard on the human body''s metabolism.

Cocaine is powdered evil and crack is it's concentrated form! I know people who've died, been arrested and put in prison, I know people who've lost everything because of this stuff. There are people who are close to me right now who are nothing but a huge burden on their family because of the sh*t. They will look you in the eye and tell you that they're off and have no intention of quitting. One can only imagine what they've had to do to get tha sh*t when they have absolutely nothing. What's worse is some people claim that crystal meth is even worse. God help us all.

I, too had my coke days..I've been sober for 20 years..But, I still consider myself a recovering addict..It just takes 1 time to slip up..Speaking from experience, cocaine and all other "white drugs" are truely the devil; make no mistake about it..I almost lost everything, including the best thing that has ever happened to me and that is my wife..I had to make a choice, and I chose life and my wife of 22 years..It was the best decision I've ever made..Stay away from the sh**..
