I never understood why bassists are neverput in the spotlight. They mean as much to a band as any other member.
The reason I say this is because I noticed that there hasn't been a post in this forum for a month!!!
Lets show Oteil the respect he deserves

Amen! Oteil is indeed a fine bassist (the finest of the greatest!) and a great man - a wonderful human being! Several of us are going to see him this Friday (Nov. 18) at the WorkPlay Theater here in Birmingham. I'm jazzed! Funked, even!

To followup, just received and listened to "Believer" (note the correction) My first impression is that a couple of the tracks I loved on first listen. Overall I don't like it as much as DTB "Joyful Noise" or any Gov't Mule but I like it very much and the tracks will find their way onto my MP3 player for random listening. I continue to be impressed by the sheer musicianship of so many of the brothers. Three separate recording and touring bands plus Gregg Allman and friends (and Jaimoe's Jass Band) must be some kind of record.

Keep in mind that Oteil has his own web-site at Hittin' the Web. Most of the ABB GB-er folks I know just head over to Oteil's Guestbook and Forum rather than come over to Oteil's section of the ABB's Forum. That make sense?

I know of Oteil's Website. That's how I downloaded his free offer and discovered "Believer".

I was mentioning that more in response to the thread-starter's question re: why nobody posts over in Oteil's section of the ABB Forum. I think it's largely b/c people just go over to Oteil's site and post there.

Yes brothers and sisters.....While at the ABB concert in Atlanta on 10-1, I saw Oteil playing the five string with Derek Trucks accompanying him with a four string bass. That was cool as hell.

I have an Oteil moment to share:
At the Mansfield show, two years ago, there was a little girl, maybe seven or eiht years old, standing on a chair in the front row, dancing the entire show. At the end, Oteil went to the edge of stage, called her over and handed her a pick. I'm sure she will remember that for a long time- what a guy he is!!!

I had the joy of hosting Oteil and his band at my club last year. Can not say enough good things about the man. The entire day was effortless and Oteil was a complete pro and I know not enough ABB fans have realized how lucky we are to have him. I had a DVD of the old lineup from 1990's in my apartment where I let him hang. He said he had never seen it and watched it with fascination. Can't wait for the Beacon!!!!

1) we LOVE oteil

2) at my daughter's first ABB concert, she was on about the 4th row (she was, mmm, almost 10) we were back about row 9. unbelievably hot night (this is Charlotte 2002). in between songs we see Oteil motioning to someone and pointing to a spot down front, about where our kid is, and that person then goes over to where she IS. we're thinking, ohmygawd, she's had a heat stroke, we're awful parents, they're calling DSS...it was one of those lovely giant picks.

3) 6 months earlier, an OPM show at the Visulite was the first late night club show we ever took the kid to. everyone was VERY nice to her.

4) see ya at the Neighborhood Theatre Saturday night!

5) and whatever you do, whatever you think of "Believer," rush out and buy "The Family Secret" NOW. not only has it worn well since we bought it, not only is it one of those CDs that EVERYONE you play it for likes, it is hands-down one of my favorite CDs.

there's some love for Oteil!

Listening to 03.18.05 to Liz Reed, particularly to Oteil's solo part (Amazing Grace) and I can't stop playing it.

What a great musician!
