Anyone hear of the rumor of Derek being asked to join Eric Clapton on his next tour? The thought of the two of them playing together is giving me goose bumps.

I'm sure Derek would be great on Wonderful Tonight. I don't know when Claptop is touring next, but I would expect that Derek wants to devote his non-ABB and non-family time to his own band.

I think EC is either on tour now or will be real soon in support of the new CD

Earlier at Royal Albert Hall when with Cream, Clapton said that this was his last year of touring, but I highly doubt it. I still think Cream is coming in October to MSG, and after that, EC may start touring again, and I would love it if he did. Of course I'd go to see him, and if Derek played, that would sweeten it so much.

Also, there is the possibility that if Clapton did do a tour with Derek, DTB would open up the shows. On his last tour, Robert Randolph and the Family Band were a great opening act and were well recieved, as I assume DTB would be. A bunch of artists besides Derek are scheduled to be on his new cd. Robert Randolph and John Mayer are as well.

That rumor actually makes a lot of sense. It works with the rumor of Derek leaving the ABB in 2006...I hear that one a lot on other boards. Also Dtb is releasing their new album soon. What better promotion for that is there than opening and playing with Eric Clapton?

Derek isn't looking for promotion.

Derek and Eric playing together would be really awesome. I would pay money to see this. Here is a thought, Warren, Derek and Eric all playing together.

How about Eric just play with the ABB?

Rumor-mongering is a favorite exercise of music fans and fantasists! I remember (rubbing stubble on chin) back in the early '70s, especially after the Allman Brothers went through the roof with Brothers and Sisters, still with just one guitarist: There was this persistent rumor that Eric, whenever he got his monkey of the month off his back, would join the ABB. He was even asked about this in Rolling Stone during his comeback cover interview in 1974, when he came back with 461 Ocean Boulevard, cut at Criteria in Miami (site of the Layla sessions etc.), produced by Tom Dowd, with a close cover of Duane's take on "Please Be with Me" with Cowboy, etc. Eric reacted with surprise and some amusement and went into a thing about Duane, not really addressing the surviving and slightly altered band (or how he might fit in).

Doyle Bramhall is okay as Eric's companion guitarist, but Derek would be wa-a-ay more interesting! ("Wonderful Tonight"--funny, Marley!) So would Robert Randolph, Sonny Landreth,* and a number of others--doesn't mean it's going to happen!

* I heard this a bunch this summer at a couple Sonny shows. A while ago Eric paid Sonny a great compliment that has practically become Sonny's number-one promotional blurb, so now all these Sonny fans are like, "Is Sonny going to record with Eric?" "Is Sonny going to tour with Eric sometime?" I wish it could've happened, but Sonny is not on the new Eric album, although, as mentioned, we have Doyle, RR, JM, and others. Eric's appreciation of Sonny is genuine and deep, but I don't know what it would take to get them together musically.

he has a CD titled Back Home coming out August 30th. at amazon.com i just saw it's like $11. now, as for clapton touring, he is doing a world tour in 2006, as reported by rolling stone i believe, but it does seem obvious since with every new album there is a world tour (reptile, me and mr johnson).

as for derek, i see no chance of this happening, i mean not only the style of music, but also the venues they play, it's clear that the derek trucks band is out there to have fun and do what they love, not appeal the general public and try to make millions of dollars. so playing with clapton might be fun, but i don't think that he is looking to open the shows in order to gain some popularity in the public eye. it would be incredible though, derek and eric, and of course the hope that it could be like derek and the dominos with derek just taking duane's place, oh the musical bliss that would ensue, but i'm just dreaming.

Thanks guys, I just looked it up for myself as well. I thought somebody said Derek is on the new CD. He isn't. And I just listened to the new single, Revolution. Meh.

Correction. That link said Derek is on the new EC album. He is not. That pretty much squashes the rumor right there.

Linnie, I would accept this arrangement only if the promoters could make an ironclad guarantee that you would be in the first row!

After reading through this, I will just say there are some things very true on this thread and the rest is just speculation.
