I have all kinds of ABB cds- old new, etc.
When I listen to the new ones, especially the Instant Lives, I'm blown away. The tone on the guitars and organ is to me, perfect. The band is so tight, solos are so well crafted and the percussion is simply outstanding. Vocals...killer. Oteil, please sing more!!
Whether its the players and/or the sound guys, my hat is off to you all for giving me such great music to pop in whenever or wherever I am.
It's got to become a little tiresome playing modified versions of the same sets and songs every night, but I have never heard a lazy, lackluster performance from this lineup. They are never on autopilot and always give 110%.
Thanks ABB!

I agree -- the band is certainly not resting on its laurels, that's for sure -- expanding the setlists as they have, pushing the envelope & looking to raise the bar every time out -- it's awesome. They're hitting the note.
Ignorant question, but are any of this year's Beacon shows going to be made Instant Lives? 3/19 sounded truly earthshaking, as did others.
Peace, & thanks ABB for all the great, great music.

I've got to agree, these guys are amazing. Truly carrying on the origional spirit, and taking the music to new places. Can't wait to see them this year. Have talked some old buddies into going and seeing them in San Diego, can't wait to hear thier reaction. Thanks ABB.

They seem to be getting better and better, kind of scarey! Got them here in a couple of weeks, first time in New mexico since 97!

There won't be Instant Lives from the Beacon, unfortunately.

However, the Wanee Instant Lives should be available soon, and I'm sure they'll go fast! The Saturday Wanee show would be an excellent "Exhibit A" to prove the point of this thread

No argument from me...I LOVE this band and couldn't be happier with recent performances, setlists, energy, band and audience chemistry, (((good vibes)))), Instant Lives etc. etc.

...and the future still looks bright!...Man, we are a lucky bunch! This place gets better and better as well - more nice folks than ever before.

I would have to agree, right now, this band is hitting on all cylinders, and doesn't show any sign of getting any worse, only room for improvement

I am really looking forward to a few Instant Live CD's from This years tour. There's two shows already on EBAY for sale.

After the 3/19 show, I'm now in agreement with all the sentiments I've read here in this thread. I've been a fan all my life and will be a fan for the rest, and these Brothers (what is this, version 6.0?) are the king of them all. I agree with the originator of this thread, the tone of this band is just off-the-hook. Derek's slide-guitar is the among the most powerful sounds I've heard in music. It draws me in completely. I usually "listen" to shows by any live band (eyes closed at the shows), and the ones I like best create an urge in my body to get closer to the sound, until it's all around me. I zone-out on that feeling and nothing exists but the music and me. These Brothers do it as effortlessly for me as flipping a light switch. I love it!

I think you need to listen to some Duane era P&B from the members, FE and EAP before you make a statement like you made. The Duane days were the best and will always be the best.

Duane's dream of what the ABB would one day become is Living and Touring right Now ! See this band while you can!! Great stories ( as all fans of the ABB know all to well ) can suddenly end.

I've seen the current lineup 4 times in the last three years; They do seem to be getting better and better every time I see them.
My younger brother who is a fan from back in the original lineup days hadn't seen them in way to long. I took him to a Beacon show and two weeks after the show he was still blown away by what he saw.

I still rememeber what Tom Dowd said about ABB in the documentary about him: he said they would all lay down the ground work, then they would all go off in different time signatures expanding the song and then with the nod or wink they were all back together. They are to me like a big jazz/swing band at times.

I am in TOTAL agreement, this is the best version of the ABB line-up to me as well.
You know more than just playing off of each other, and really getting after it night
after night, they really do seem to enjoy each other.

I've seen Gregg look at Derek Warren and the other guys during a performance and
it just looks to me like he's thinking, he's really got something here.

Hats off to Warren Haynes because if he didn't rejoin in 2000, maybe we wouldn't
even be having this discussion.

I'm also a fan of the Warren-Dickey-Woody combination of the late 80's and early 90's..

i've said it before and ill say it again, we are all very llucky to have the band playing as well as they are. so many older bands only tour for the money and lack energy, the music and tone lacks, but the allman brothers are much more than that, every show is like a new task that they have to accomplish, and the task is a little harder and takes more energy each show, they fire is back in gregg, and warren, derek and oteil add to it, we're very lucky

Will the Wanee IL's be available via mail order?

Imagine the response to a benefit offering for the Big House if the 3-22 show was offered as an IL (although I know it was not recorded as such).

Fillmore and Eat a Peach. Sorry.

Current line-up is great, no doubt, but Duane and that raw energy....man!

The Duane-era ABB and the current version are BOTH the best bands ever -- they are both the Allman Brothers Band.

And WE are the luckiest music fans who have ever lived ...

I'd love to say the current version is the best ever but there's a big difference between being the ones who created the sound and the ones who continue it. Is Hittin' the Note and will the new album be better than Eat a Peach, Idlewild South or Brothers and Sisters? Is One Way Out better than Live at the Fillmore? Are Oteil, Derek and Warren better now than Berry, Duane and Dickey were then? Possibly as good, but not better. Being the ones who created the sound puts the older bunch over the top in my mind.

I will be a small voice of dissent on this one. I've seen plenty of Beacon shows over the past few years and plenty of non-Beacon shows. The non-Beacon shows are shorter and overall less enthusiastic then the Beacon shows. The non-Beacon shows can sometimes be a bit autopilot while the Beacon shows are enthusiastic explorations into the very best that each of them can put on the table. I love seeing the ABB no matter where but the Beacon shows simply rule!

Of course, your mileage may vary.
