Sadly, some people think it is enough to sign up, and leave a note telling someone to PM them, that's wrong.

I'd like to say that if someone doesn't PM the person in front of them, they get skipped. Kinda harsh I know, but it is frustrating when I see it time and time again, and surprise....from the same person or persons all the time. ARHHHH.

I have signed up on several vines where the person after me has failed to Pm me with their addy.
If I don't hear from them by the time I'm done with it, I will contact the person after them.
As someone stated, it is my responsibility to get it to the next person. It is, however, that person's responsibility to send me their address. If I have to make an extra effort to obtain someone's address (with the vine stalling in the meantime), the "stall time" should be made up by skipping the irresponsible person!

And, as Ooogie stated:
quote:
Go the extra inch and insert a friggin link to the thread!

This is accomplished by "bracketing" the url of the thread with & .
Example: url of the thread.

(you'll have to hit the "quote" tab at the bottom of this post for that last instruction, to see how it's done, as it automatically made them links.)

The 3 C's of vining - communication, courtesy, and common sense!

can someone help me out please ... I'm holding a vine 3 discs DVD Clapton 11-14, 11-15-06, and 12-6-06. Well, I cannot find the thread and it's been about a month maybe.

I don't know protocol really - should I bump it? (if I could find it, that is)

Thanks!!

Peace.

p.s. I have checked my PMs lately

a bump every week/2 weeks is always a good thing, with a busy vines section it's easy for people to miss a bunch of goodies, plus there's always new people or people that just learned to burn DVD's or FLAC's or whatever reason that this time around might be the time to sign up

Another problem we continually have is someone asking for the person to send them an email. If you don't check in here often enough to read a PM don't sign up. These are usually the same people who never update the vine or send it on to the next in line until someone emails them again to let them know there are 37 people that signed up after they did that are still waiting............

I was asked a question re etiquette for bumping vines that have stalled i.e. you've received a vine that no one has signed up for after you. you've bumped it several times and it's been a few weeks or even months.......this has probably already been covered here but a bit of a grey area still.

I've been on the vines just a few months and I am enjoying the music tremendously.....
So, I want to say a huge thank you to all of you that share the music......

I too already have a bunch vines that no one picked up after me......I'm just holding them and hoping someone will take them eventually.....(all of these vines have been bumped multiple times).............

I hoping to get brave enough for flac soon....

thanks to all those generous folks that create vines on this site. I have received much nice music. it would be great if when you offer a vine if you could advise the format...i.e. compressed (flac/shn) or .wav etc etc...

There's nothing to be brave about.
Just download in seconds a thingy software that converts FLAC into WAVE.
Insert the FLAC files into the WAVE thingy and press convert and VOILA! PRESTO! you have WAVE files.
It's that simple!

It has been stated and requested early in this thread to post vine thread headers as:

Name Date Location Format

example:
ABB 2010-03-21 Beacon FLAC
Dickey Betts 2010-02-27 Sarasota, FL Audio
ABB 2003-09-19 Red Rocks Wave
SRV 1984-08-25 Rockpalast DVD vid

Established torrent sites like Dime A Dozen, etree, Traders Den request thread torrent headers like above. Also no /// slashes //// You can't create folders in windows with ///slashes///.

I have a question about the vines

Is it possible to only use the online file? This seems to me much easier and faster to just send the file, maybe not by mail because the files are usually to big but in some other way. I mean since most of the people rip the cd/dvd onto their harddrive it would be kinda easy to just send the file onwards instead of having to send the whole dvd by post. This applies of course only when people are ok with only receiving the file. Moreovernext to being faster it is also completely free

Im new with this vines stuff so maybe i didnt understand it correctly.

Thanks in advance

had some time to kill and thought I would take excerpts from previous posts about how this forum works and put them into one...I'm sure most of you already know this, but, I was new once too (thanks CanadianMule!) and didn't either have the patience or the smarts (or both) to navigate to page 7 to read all of the previous how to's on this thing...A few things before we get started:

Thank you for the tutorial. I will have to study a little more.

I just thought I'd share this PM I received re: the BEACON '09 run vine:, and my reply:

Could you send me the link for the '09 Beacon run feed?

I googled audio vine and couldn't find anything?

I presume these are torrent downloads of the flac files?

Thanks for any help,

xxx

"...feed..." ???

I'm gonna go out on a limb here. I reckon that you are new here, as you don't seem to have any posts here as of yet. So, please allow me to be the first to say...

WELCOME to Hittin the Web with the Allman Brothers Band !

Have you tried googling Allman Brothers torrent ?

Well, if you do, you won't find anything. Zip. Nada. Rein. Zilch. :-o

The reason?
The ABB allows mail trading, but specifically prohibits digital trading, and their wishes get respected.

Tapes of their shows just don't seem to circulate. With the exception of this site!

So, this thing we got here, is where people trade tapes via snail mail. A vine is a new "streamlined' and internet-powered way to trade tapes a little easier. In a nutshell, someone will have something they want to start circulating. They start a vine, meaning that they post a new thread on the vines forum and describe what they have. Then, the first person to respond via a post on that thread with their username, and then PM the thread-starter/tape-holder with their mailing address. Others follow by copying the list of people ahead of them in the thread, adding their name, and PM'ing the person ahead of them their address and ask to be next. The CDs/DVDs/(and in the old days) tapes are mailed out from the vine/thread-starter to the first person, then from #1 to #2, etc... A "vine" is started...

Read this guide:
Vining...How to...

So there you have it. No, there is no "feed" or torrent out there to be had. But, if you wanna come out and play with us, you're certainly welcome and the folks here seem mighty friendly. Imagine that...!

Me, I'm a n00b here also, having signed up only a month ago. I knew about this site, but trading via snail-mail - GEEZ, what a hassle, no thanks! How 20th century... Right?

Well, I finally caved in and, now, I am vining my brains out. I've had at least a half-dozen pass thru here, and even started my own vine:
Lynyrd Skynyrd: 2 ProShot DVDs 1975 & 1977
Yeah, 2 Skynyrd videos (from DIME or TDD). I didn't have any Allmans to trade, because these just simple do not exist on the interwebz, except direct from the ABB or via snail-mail here!

By the way, you can be next for my Skynyrd vids. Just create a new post on the above thread, copy the short list of two names and add yours to the end as #3 after Sal. Sal is known around here to not play nice, and never seems to update the vines with in and out dates, but he should have gotten these by now, and they should be ready to go out again.

If you look at my last post, I am currently working to resurrect the BEACON'09 vine, but you are certainly welcome to add your name there also!

So, no instant gratification around here. It is old-fashioned, SLOW, a little awkward, takes a little more effort, is time-consuming and cost a few bucks, usually $2.50 to $3.00, but it is also much more personal, friendly (talk about peer-to-peer!), and quite satisfying once you get 'em.

I think I like it ALOT !! I hope you do too. And, besides, this is the only way it happens...

"Because I'm HUNG-UP... on TAPES I'll never see..."

Peace,
Victor

I surely do hope that these aren't...
